Lady Tigers fall to Gilmer 4-1

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers lost to the Gilmer Lady Bobcats 4-1 on Friday night in Dawsonville.

Senior Annie Gloeckner found sophomore Daisy Vargas-Sanchez for the first goal of the game, allowing Dawson Co. to take the early lead. However, that was the final goal of the game for the Lady Tigers. Gilmer scored a pair of goals in each half to win the game 4-1.

The Lady Tigers’ season ends at 1-12-1, with a 1-4 record in Region 7-3A.

Senior Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 23 points. Freshman Morgan Chester had a big game down low for Dawson Co., collecting 21 rebounds and recording 3 blocks.

Anglin hit a big 3-pointer to tie the game at 45 and send it to overtime. However, late turnovers plagued the Lady Tigers.

Dawson Co.’s season ends at 13-12.

night in Flowery Branch. The Lady Tigers relied on their defense, which is anchored by senior Mariah Benson. Benson gathered 13 rebounds and blocked four shots in the game.

Dawson Co. was led in scoring by senior Madison Anglin, who scored 18 points. On a 3-pointer in the 4th quarter, Anglin scored her 1,000th career points.

The Lady Tigers finish out the regular season this Friday, as they travel to play at West Hall at 6 p.m.

Anglin leads Lady Tigers past North Hall

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers defeated the North Hall Lady Trojans 50-29 on Friday night in Dawsonville.

The Lady Tigers relied on their stout defense for the victory, allowing only 10 points in the first half.

Senior Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Fellow senior Mariah Benson came off the bench to score 14 points and gather 11 rebounds.

The Lady Tigers have a quick turnaround as they play Elbert Co. tomorrow at home at 2:30 p.m. Dawson Co. has won back to back games and will look to make it a third straight victory.

Second-half surge leads Lady Tigers to victory

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers defeated the Alcovy Lady Tigers 69-36 in Dawsonville on Saturday. The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by sophomore Kirklyn Porter who had 16 points. Senior Maddie Anglin also scored 12 for Dawson Co.

The Lady Tigers showed a ton of energy in the first half, and it played to their advantage. They turned up the pressure every chance they got on defense and pushed the ball down the floor quickly on offense. They also came up with plenty of loose balls and offensive rebounds. Their effort allowed them to take a 37-27 lead into halftime.

Dawson Co. dialed down the pressure in the second half but maintained the same energy level. They outscored Alcovy 22-2 in the third quarter, which allowed them to coast to a 69-36 victory.

tournament at North Forsyth. The pressure from Dutchtown proved to be too much for Dawson Co. to handle, as the Lady Bulldogs dominated the second half. After trailing 22-21 at halftime, Dutchtown outscored the Lady Tigers 18-0 in the third quarter to take control of the game.

Senior Maddie Anglin led Dawson Co. in scoring with nine points. Abby Slaton also chipped in seven points for the Lady Tigers.

Dawson Co. continues tournament play on Monday at 6 p.m. as they play South Atlanta high school.

Dawson Co. falls to Lumpkin Co. 8-2

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers lost to the Lumpkin Co. Lady Indians 8-2 on Monday night in Dahlonega. The Lady Tigers were able to get runners on base and score once in the top of the 7th inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

After the Lady Tigers scored in the first inning, the game was dominated by pitching until the 4th inning. In the bottom of the 4th, Lumpkin Co. scored six runs on a two-run homer by #36 Alyssa Pulley and a grand slam by #33 Lauren English. The Lady Indians added to their run total in the bottom of the sixth inning on a sacrifice RBI that led to #10 Emmi Graham scoring and on an RBI by #1 Hailey Mincey. Dawson Co. scored one run in the top of the sixth inning fielder’s choice that resulted in #18 Olivia Martinez crossing home plate to make the final score 8-2.

The Lady Tigers have a short turnaround as they host North Hall tomorrow at 6 p.m.

Dawson Co. comeback attempt falls short in loss to Lumpkin Co.

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers fell to the Lumpkin Co. Lady Indians 7-6 at home on Wednesday night.

The Lady Tigers scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh inning, but couldn’t complete the comeback.

The Lady Indians jumped out to a huge lead by scoring one run in the second inning and six runs in the third inning to take a 7-0 lead. However, the Lady Tigers scored one run in the fifth inning and five runs in the bottom of the seventh to close the gap. The Dawson Co. rally ultimately fell short, as Lumpkin Co. won the game 7-6.

Bella Henson had an excellent night at the plate as she batted 3 for 4 with an RBI. Layne Bailey also had a nice night as she batted 2 for 3 with two RBIs.

The Lady Tigers’ have a quick turnaround as they travel to play at Rabun high school tomorrow at 6 p.m.

 

Dawson Co. falls to White Co. on Monday night

The White Co. Lady Warriors defeated the Dawson Co. Lady Tigers on Monday night in Dawsonville.

Olivia Martinez scored the lone run for the Lady Tigers. Reese Moore and Layne Bailey combined to strike out seven White Co. batters.

The Lady Warriors jumped out to an early lead by scoring two runs in the first inning. They scored two more in the fourth inning to take a 4-0 lead. Dawson Co. scored a run in the bottom of the 6th inning to close the gap, but couldn’t score any more, as White Co. prevailed 4-0.

The Lady Tigers return to action tomorrow as they travel to play Gilmer high school in Ellijay at 6 p.m.

Dawson Co. game against Rabun Co. cut short by weather

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers played host to the Rabun Co. Lady Wildcats on Wednesday night.

The game was cut short in the bottom of the second inning due to inclement weather. Before the game was called, Rabun Co. was winning 3-0. #21 Bella Hensen, a senior for the Lady Tigers, had the lone hit for the Lady Tigers.

The Lady Tigers have a quick turnaround as they host the West Hall Lady Spartans tomorrow night at 5 p.m.

Lady Tigers force 2-2 tie against Denmark

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (0-2-1) tied with the Denmark Lady Danes (3-2-1) on Tuesday night at home as each team scored two goals. The tie was “something to build off of” according to Coach Hamby. Senior Katie Clouse and junior Molly Muenchen each had a goal for Dawson Co.

Denmark opened up scoring for the game with 25 minutes remaining in the first half. Clouse nearly responded a few minutes later but was able to tie the game up with 12 minutes left in the first half.

The second half was just as competitive as the first. Denmark took the lead with a goal a little over halfway through the first half. Dawson Co. was able to respond again, this time with a goal from Muenchen.

The match ended tied at 2-2. The Lady Tigers will return to action on Friday at 7:30 P.M. at Habersham Central.

Lady Tigers fall to Cedar Grove in first round of 3A state playoffs

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers fell to Cedar Grove 45-39 on Thursday. Cedar Grove hosted the first round matchup of the 3A state playoffs, as they won the Region 5-3A tournament. The Lady Tigers were outscored 18-4 in the fourth quarter, as they couldn’t hang on to their lead.

Dawson Co. started off the game strong with a 9-0 run. However, the Lady Saints fought their way back and only trailed 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.

The score remained even in the second quarter, as the Lady Tigers took a 25-18 lead into halftime after senior Marlie Townley hit a lay-up as time expired.

Cedar Grove closed the gap by opening the second half on a 7-2 run. However, the Lady Tigers responded with an 8-2 run and led 35-27 heading into the fourth quarter.

The final period started out as a defensive standstill. Neither time scored until halfway through the period, when the Lady Saints hit a pair of free throws. The rest of the game was all downhill, as Cedar Grove ramped up the pressure. The Lady Tigers lost 45-39, which ends their season at 14-14.

Fannin Co. defeats Dawson Co. 54-42, clinches third place in Region 7-3A

Fannin Co. (19-10, 8-7 Region 7-3A)  defeated Dawson Co. (15-13, 7-8 Region 7-3A) 54-42 to win the third place game in the Region 7-3A tournament. The win also gives Fannin Co. a 3-seed in the 3A state tournament, and Dawson Co. will be a 4-seed in the tournament. The Lady Rebels finished the first quarter on a 13-0 run, which made it hard for Dawson Co. to fight back into the game, despite their efforts.

The game started out close, with the Lady Tigers leading 7-6 a few minutes into the game. However, Fannin Co. used a 13-0 run, which was capped off by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by junior Natalie Thomas, to finish the quarter with a 19-7 lead.

Dawson Co. was able to claw back into the game with a 6-0 run in the middle of the quarter. The Lady Rebels responded with a  7-0 run of their own to lead 31-22 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers used strong defense to cut the lead to 37-31 heading into the final period. They held Fannin Co. to six points in the quarter, and used an early 8-2 run to keep the game close.

Dawson Co. was able to cut the lead to only four points early in the period, but the Lady Rebels gained momentum back quickly. They finished the game on a 7-2 run to win 54-42 and secure third place in the region.

Marlie Townley is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Lady Tigers!

Marlie Townley is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Dawson Co. Lady Tigers!

Townley, a 5-foot-11 senior forward/center, had a standout performance for Dawson Co. (13-11, 6-6 Region 7-A) last week.

Against Cherokee Bluff (5-20, 2-10) on Tuesday, Jan. 28, in Flowery Branch, Townley had a double-double with 10 points and 10 rebounds, while adding two assists, two steals, and four blocks as the Lady Tigers fell 56-53.

Townley was also instrumental for Dawson Co. in a 67-57 loss at East Hall (9-15, 4-8) on Friday, Jan. 31, in Rabbittown.

For her efforts, Townley is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Lady Tigers!

Madison Anglin is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Dawson Co. Lady Tigers!

Anglin, a 5-foot-6 junior guard, had two standout games last week for Dawson Co. (13-9, 6-4) as the Lady Tigers split a pair of Region 7-AAA games.

On Tuesday, Jan. 21, Anglin scored a team-high 15 points, while adding five rebounds and a steal, as Dawson Co. lost 66-50 at North Hall (16-7, 7-3).

Against Lumpkin Co. (14-9, 5-6) on Friday, Jan. 24, Anglin scored 15 points, pulled down three rebounds, had two assists, and a steal in the 63-55 victory in Dawsonville.

For her efforts, Anglin is the TeamFYNSports Player of the Week for the Lady Tigers!

Dawson Co. Lady Tigers fall to North Hall 66-50

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (12-9, 5-4 Region 7-3A) fell to the North Hall Lady Trojans (16-7, 7-3 Region 7-3A) on Tuesday night on the road 66-50. The Lady Trojans hit 11 3-pointers in the first three quarters, which helped lead them to victory. Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Marlie Townley had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Kirklyn Porter had 11 points. Sophia D’Oliveira had 8 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists for Dawson Co.

The first quarter was tight, with the Trojans leading 19-18 at the end of the period. The teams combined to hit 9 threes in the high scoring first quarter.

North Hall’s hot shooting continued in the second quarter. They finished the period on a 13-3 run to take a 41-29 halftime lead.

North Hall was able to ramp up the pressure and extend their lead more in the third quarter. They used an early 10-2 run that helped them take a 55-36 lead into the final period.

The Lady Tigers fought hard and started the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run. However, the Lady Trojans went on to win the game 66-50

Dawson Co. will return to action on Friday as they host Lumpkin Co. (14-8, 5-5 Region 7-3A) at 6 P.M.
