Senior Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 23 points. Freshman Morgan Chester had a big game down low for Dawson Co., collecting 21 rebounds and recording 3 blocks.
Anglin hit a big 3-pointer to tie the game at 45 and send it to overtime. However, late turnovers plagued the Lady Tigers.
Dawson Co.’s season ends at 13-12.

night in Flowery Branch. The Lady Tigers relied on their defense, which is anchored by senior Mariah Benson. Benson gathered 13 rebounds and blocked four shots in the game.
Dawson Co. was led in scoring by senior Madison Anglin, who scored 18 points. On a 3-pointer in the 4th quarter, Anglin scored her 1,000th career points.
The Lady Tigers finish out the regular season this Friday, as they travel to play at West Hall at 6 p.m.

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers defeated the North Hall Lady Trojans 50-29 on Friday night in Dawsonville.

The Lady Tigers relied on their stout defense for the victory, allowing only 10 points in the first half.
Senior Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers with 27 points, 10 rebounds, and four steals. Fellow senior Mariah Benson came off the bench to score 14 points and gather 11 rebounds.
The Lady Tigers have a quick turnaround as they play Elbert Co. tomorrow at home at 2:30 p.m. Dawson Co. has won back to back games and will look to make it a third straight victory.
Second-half surge leads Lady Tigers to victory

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers defeated the Alcovy Lady Tigers 69-36 in Dawsonville on Saturday. The Lady Tigers were led in scoring by sophomore Kirklyn Porter who had 16 points. Senior Maddie Anglin also scored 12 for Dawson Co.
The Lady Tigers showed a ton of energy in the first half, and it played to their advantage. They turned up the pressure every chance they got on defense and pushed the ball down the floor quickly on offense. They also came up with plenty of loose balls and offensive rebounds. Their effort allowed them to take a 37-27 lead into halftime.

Dawson Co. dialed down the pressure in the second half but maintained the same energy level. They outscored Alcovy 22-2 in the third quarter, which allowed them to coast to a 69-36 victory.

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers lost to the Dutchtown Lady Bulldogs 56-35 in their first game of the 2020 Raider Classic Thanksgiving

tournament at North Forsyth. The pressure from Dutchtown proved to be too much for Dawson Co. to handle, as the Lady Bulldogs dominated the second half. After trailing 22-21 at halftime, Dutchtown outscored the Lady Tigers 18-0 in the third quarter to take control of the game.
Senior Maddie Anglin led Dawson Co. in scoring with nine points. Abby Slaton also chipped in seven points for the Lady Tigers.
Dawson Co. continues tournament play on Monday at 6 p.m. as they play South Atlanta high school.
Lady Tigers fall to Cedar Grove in first round of 3A state playoffs

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers fell to Cedar Grove 45-39 on Thursday. Cedar Grove hosted the first round matchup of the 3A state playoffs, as they won the Region 5-3A tournament. The Lady Tigers were outscored 18-4 in the fourth quarter, as they couldn’t hang on to their lead.
Dawson Co. started off the game strong with a 9-0 run. However, the Lady Saints fought their way back and only trailed 13-9 at the end of the first quarter.
The score remained even in the second quarter, as the Lady Tigers took a 25-18 lead into halftime after senior Marlie Townley hit a lay-up as time expired.

Cedar Grove closed the gap by opening the second half on a 7-2 run. However, the Lady Tigers responded with an 8-2 run and led 35-27 heading into the fourth quarter.
The final period started out as a defensive standstill. Neither time scored until halfway through the period, when the Lady Saints hit a pair of free throws. The rest of the game was all downhill, as Cedar Grove ramped up the pressure. The Lady Tigers lost 45-39, which ends their season at 14-14.
Fannin Co. defeats Dawson Co. 54-42, clinches third place in Region 7-3A

Fannin Co. (19-10, 8-7 Region 7-3A) defeated Dawson Co. (15-13, 7-8 Region 7-3A) 54-42 to win the third place game in the Region 7-3A tournament. The win also gives Fannin Co. a 3-seed in the 3A state tournament, and Dawson Co. will be a 4-seed in the tournament. The Lady Rebels finished the first quarter on a 13-0 run, which made it hard for Dawson Co. to fight back into the game, despite their efforts.

The game started out close, with the Lady Tigers leading 7-6 a few minutes into the game. However, Fannin Co. used a 13-0 run, which was capped off by a buzzer-beating 3-pointer by junior Natalie Thomas, to finish the quarter with a 19-7 lead.
Dawson Co. was able to claw back into the game with a 6-0 run in the middle of the quarter. The Lady Rebels responded with a 7-0 run of their own to lead 31-22 at halftime.

The Lady Tigers used strong defense to cut the lead to 37-31 heading into the final period. They held Fannin Co. to six points in the quarter, and used an early 8-2 run to keep the game close.
Dawson Co. was able to cut the lead to only four points early in the period, but the Lady Rebels gained momentum back quickly. They finished the game on a 7-2 run to win 54-42 and secure third place in the region.

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (15-12, 7-7 Region 7-3A) lost to North Hall (19-8, 9-4 Region 7-3A) 72-51 in the second round of the Region 7-3A tournament at East Hall on Friday night. The Lady Tigers were outscored 25-5 in the second quarter, which could partially be attributed to foul trouble.

Sophia D’Oliveira led the Lady Tigers by scoring 20 points. Maddie Anglin also had 14 points, and Marlie Townley scored 10.
Dawson Co. opened the game with a 3-pointer from junior Maddie Anglin. However, the Lady Tigers quickly got into foul trouble. Despite having multiple starters on the bench, Dawson Co. only trailed 13-8 at the end of the quarter.
The second quarter was all North Hall. They outscored the Lady Tigers 25-5 in the quarter to take a 38-13 lead into halftime.

Dawson Co. fought back in the second half. They finished the third quarter on a 10-0 run to cut the deficit to 50-33 heading into the fourth quarter.
Neither team gained more of an advantage in the fourth quarter, as the Lady Spartans won the game 72-51.
The Lady Tigers play Saturday at 3 p.m. against Fannin Co. for third place in the Region 7-3A tournament and a 3-seed in the state tournament.
Dawson Co. advances to second round of region tournament with win over East Hall

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (14-11, 7-6 Region 7-3A) defeated the East Hall Lady Vikings (9-16, 4-9 Region 7-3A) 52-46 to advance to the second round of the Region 7-3A tournament and clinch a state playoff berth. The Lady Tigers opened the fourth quarter with an 11-2 run to take a lead that they never lost.

Marlie Townley led the way for the Lady Tigers with 22 points, 15 rebounds, and five blocks. Maddie Anglin also scored 11 points for Dawson Co.
It took the Lady Tigers a few minutes to get things going. They didn’t score until halfway through the first quarter, but went on a 9-0 run to lead 11-10 after the first quarter.
Dawson Co. started off the second quarter much stronger. They open with an 8-2 run to extend their lead. However, the Lady Vikings responded with a 9-2 run and tied the game at 21 at halftime.

East Hall used a 12-2 run in the middle of the third quarter to seize control of the game. Dawson Co. responded with a late 6-0 run to cut the Lady Viking lead to 37-34 with one quarter left to play.
The Lady Tigers started the fourth quarter on an 11-2 run to gain a solid lead. They held on to win the game 52-46 and clinch a state playoff berth.
Dawson Co. advances to the next round of the Region 7-3A tournament and will play North Hall on Friday at East Hall at 4 p.m.
Lady Tigers win on senior night against Lumpkin Co. 63-55

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (13-9, 6-4 Region 7-3A) won on their senior night against the Lumpkin Co. Lady Indians (14-9, 5-6 Region 7-3A) 63-55. They used an 8-1 run late in the 4th to seal the win.
Marlie Townley had a monster game for the Lady Tigers with 16 points, 15 rebounds, 4 blocks, and 3 assists. Sophia D’Oliveira had 14 points, 5 assists, and 6 rebounds on her senior night.

Kate Jackson led the way for the Lady Indians by scoring a game-high 20 points, and Isabel Davenport scored 19 points.
The first quarter was an even battle, with the Lady Tigers leading 12-10 at the end. They used a late 8-0 run to take the lead into the next quarter.
The second period was just as competitive as the first. Both team had long runs, but the Lady Tigers still led at the end of the period 29-26.

The third period was another even one, with the teams trading scores. Dawson Co. still led heading into the final quarter 44-42.
The 4th quarter started out just as even as the first three. The Lady Tigers’ went on an 8-1 run late in the period to win the game 63-55.
Dawson Co.’s next game is Tuesday at Cherokee Bluff at 6 P.M.

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (12-9, 5-4 Region 7-3A) fell to the North Hall Lady Trojans (16-7, 7-3 Region 7-3A) on Tuesday night on the road 66-50. The Lady Trojans hit 11 3-pointers in the first three quarters, which helped lead them to victory. Maddie Anglin led the Lady Tigers in scoring with 15 points. Marlie Townley had 15 points and nine rebounds, while Kirklyn Porter had 11 points. Sophia D’Oliveira had 8 points, 12 rebounds, and 6 assists for Dawson Co.
The first quarter was tight, with the Trojans leading 19-18 at the end of the period. The teams combined to hit 9 threes in the high scoring first quarter.
North Hall’s hot shooting continued in the second quarter. They finished the period on a 13-3 run to take a 41-29 halftime lead.

North Hall was able to ramp up the pressure and extend their lead more in the third quarter. They used an early 10-2 run that helped them take a 55-36 lead into the final period.
The Lady Tigers fought hard and started the fourth quarter on a 7-2 run. However, the Lady Trojans went on to win the game 66-50

Dawson Co. girls fall to GAC 71-59 at home

The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers (11-8, 5-3 Region 7-3A) lost to the visiting Greater Atlanta Christian Lady Spartans (10-9, 6-1 Region 7-3A) 71-59 on Tuesday night. The Lady Tigers were playing without two starters, Sophia D’Oliveira and Mariah Benson.
Maddie Anglin led the team in scoring with 19 points including three 3-pointers. The Lady Tigers had three other players score in double figures, with Marlie Townley scoring 15 points, Avery Herring scoring 11 points, and Kirklyn Porter scoring 10 points.

The Lady Tigers started the game off strong by jumping out to a 15-4 lead in the first quarter. However, the Lady Spartans responded with a 19-0 run to end the quarter with a 23-15 lead.
Despite a strong start to the second quarter from Dawson Co., the Lady Spartans ended the period on an 8-2 run to extend their lead to double digits. GAC took a 35-24 lead into the half.
The third quarter was a back-and-forth affair, as the teams traded scores. A late 9-2 run from the Lady Spartans allowed them to extend their lead to 54-38 with one period left to play.

The Lady Tigers fought hard in the fourth quarter to close the gap, but it wasn’t enough. A 14-2 run late in the game made the score closer, but Dawson Co. lost 71-59.
Coach Steve Sweat said, “You have to not make turnovers, play good/smart defense, and get the backside rebounds if you want to have a chance of beating them!”
The Dawson Co. Lady Tigers play at home again this Friday at 7pm vs Denmark.
White Co. Lady Warriors defeat Dawson Co. 64-56

The White Co. girls basketball team took down Dawson Co. 64-56 in the final girls game of the North Georgia High School Showcase on Saturday, Dec. 14, in Dawsonville.
While the game was close throughout, the Lady Warriors (6-5, 2-1 Region 7-AAAA) outscored the Lady Tigers 22-16 in the fourth quarter to pull out the victory.
Despite being outscored in the fourth, the Lady Tigers (6-5, 2-1 Region 7-AAA) made a furious run late in the game that almost brought them all the way back into the lead.
Maddie Futch, a junior, led the way for White Co. with 16 points in the game.

Fellow senior Bentley Cronic scored 14, while junior Dasha Cannon added 12 in the win.
Naomi Crumley also scored in double digits with 10 for the Lady Warriors.
For the Lady Tigers, junior Madison Anglin led with the way with 20 points.
Senior Sophia D’Oliveira added 16 for Dawson, while Marlie Townley, also a senior, had 11 points and 10 rebounds.
White Co. jumped out to the quick lead to start the game, then ended the first quarter on a 7-1 run to take a 13-6 lead.
The Lady Tigers responded with a 6-1 run to open the second quarter and close the gap. The teams traded scores, with White Co. leading 27-24 at halftime.
The second half started off just as even as the first half.
The Lady Tigers were able to take their first lead of the game in the middle of the third quarter after an 8-0 run. The Lady Warriors responded by scoring the final five points of the period to retake the lead, 42-40.

White Co. went on a 7-2 run early in the fourth to gain a bigger advantage quickly. With 5:30 left in the game and the Lady Tigers trailing 51-45, D’Oliveira fouled out of the game. The Lady Warriors took advantage by going on a 6-1 right after. However, Dawson Co. showed heart and didn’t give up. They went on an 8-2 run to cut the lead to five. White Co. then scored five of the final seven points of the game to win 64-56.
Both team next play Tuesday, Dec. 17. The Lady Warriors will travel to Chestatee High, while the Lady Tigers will head to Dahlonega to take on region foe Lumpkin Co.
Both games are slated to begin at 6 p.m.

Marlie Townley had a big night for the Lady Tigers. Playing host to the Lady Trojans of North Hall on Friday, Townley scored in the final minute of the 4th quarter to give her team the lead. The points were her 13th and 14th of the game on a night where she also collected her 500th career rebound. She totaled 10 rebounds on the night. Also contributing to the win were three other Lady Tigers that scored in double figures. Kirklyn Porter also scored 14 points, while Mariah Benson had 12 points and 10 boards. Sophia D’Oliveira had a triple-double, with 10 points, 10 rebounds, and 11 assists.

Dawson County opened the game with an 8-2 run to jump out to an early lead. Combine that with their 11-3 run in the middle of the quarter, which gave them a 25-13 lead after the first period of play.
The Lady Tigers opened up the second quarter strong as well, with a 9-3 run to get their lead to nearly 20. However, North Hall chipped away at the lead as Dawson’s girls got into foul trouble. The Lady Trojans scored the final nine points of the quarter, seven of which were from the charity stripe. This cut the lead down to 36-28 to go into the locker room at halftime.
At halftime, the 2019 Dawson County Boys’ team was celebrated. They went 27-5 last year, won the region 7-3A tournament, and made it to the final four. Jasper Gibson’s 1500th career point was also honored during the break.
The 3rd quarter was a low-scoring battle. Late in the period, the Lady Trojans’ tied the game at 39. However, Dawson County responded with back to back threes to take a 45-39 lead into the final quarter.
To start the fourth, North Hall quickly scored 8 straight points to take the lead and force a Dawson County timeout.

The Lady Tigers fought back with two straight buckets to regain their lead. The rest of the game was a battle, with the Lady Trojans hitting a three with 23 seconds remaining to take a one-point lead. On the ensuing possession, D’Oliveira was fouled and headed to the line for a one-and-one attempt. She missed the free throw, but gathered her own rebound. They worked the ball around and got it into the hands of Townley, who hit a lay-up to retake the lead. The Lady Tigers got the stop, and D’Oliveira headed back to the line. She sealed the game with two free throws. Dawson County won 57-54.
The Lady Tigers have a quick turnaround, as they play at home tomorrow at 6:30 P.M. against White County.

Down 31-28 at the half, the Lady Tigers outscored the Lady Red Raiders 20-9 in the third quarter to take over the game. Dawson went on to win Saturday’s opening game of the North Forsyth Tip-off Tournament 69-55. Maddie Anglin and Sophia D’Oliveira lead the way with 15 points. D’Oliveira nearly had a triple-double, as she also had 9 boards and 8 assists. Marlie Townley also came close to a triple-double as she chipped in 12 points, 14 rebounds and 8 assists. Mariah Benson also had a big game as she put up 14 points and 12 rebounds for the Lady Tigers.

The teams traded baskets throughout the first quarter, with neither team able to gain any separation. At the end of the first quarter, Dawson trailed 19-17.
The second quarter was just as competitive. Dawson went into halftime only down 3 points. Anglin and D’Oliveira each had 8 in the half.
The Lady Tigers opened the second half on a 6-0 run to get the lead back. They also had a 12-0 run late in the third that was halted by a three from Madison County. Dawson took the 48-40 lead into the fourth.

After the teams traded multiple scores to start the final period, the Lady Tigers took over. They sealed the deal with an 8-0 run late in the 4th, as they walked away with a 69-55 win.
The second round of the tournament will take place on Monday at 4 P.M. against Cherokee High School.
