Shirley Evans Patterson

Shirley Evans Patterson, 72, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday March 21, 2019 at the Woodstock Nursing Home following a period of declining health.

Born December 10, 1946 in Forsyth County to the late Roscoe and Minnie Evans, she lived in Dawson County most of her life. Shirley did live a few years in Pickens County and was formerly employed by Lexington Components in Jasper. She attended Juno Baptist Church and was also preceded in death by her husband, Billy T. Patterson; and brothers, James Evans, and Vernie Evans.

Surviving are her sisters and brother in law, Annie and Billy Roland, Dawsonville; Tilda Eller Hobgood, Woodstock; brothers and sister in law, Cleve and Mildred Evans, Dawsonville, Bige Evans, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Tammy and Matt Butler, Jessica Patterson; a special niece, Jane Lewis, Acworth; and a number of other nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Saturday March 23, 2019 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Dennis Bottoms and Rev. Tommy Weldy will officiate. Interment will follow in the Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Friday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.

John Andrew Makosky

John Andrew Makosky, 84, of Cumming passed away Sunday, February 3, 2019 at the Oaks at Hampton following a period of declining health.

Born July 24, 1934 in Montville, NJ to the late John and Mary Makosky, Mr. Makosky lived in Alpharetta for over 30 years before moving to the Oaks at Hampton in 2017. After a long career in the automotive industry, John retired from Webb Wheel Products in 1999. A U.S. Army veteran, John was a loving husband, father and grandfather. He was preceded in death by his wife of 62 years, Joan Colette Makosky and son, John David Makosky.

Surviving are his children, Sharon and Terry Martin, Dawsonville, Diane and Dan Rennell, Rogers, AR; six grandchildren, Laura and Joe Grossman, Kevin Martin, Justin Rennell, Courtney Rennell, Evan and Alexis Rennell, Hannah Rennell; and sister, Dorothy Makosky, Montville, NJ.

Funeral services will be held Thursday, February 7, 2019 at 3:30 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow at Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Thursday from 2 p.m. until the hour of service at the funeral home.

Hector was a trained service dog who served with the Dawson County Sheriff’s Department K-9 unit from 2012 until he passed away while on duty in November of 2018.

To honor his service to this community, a memorial service to honor him will be held Wednesday January 9, 2019 at 11 o’clock at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel.

Earni Pulley, 75, of Dawsonville passed away Monday December 31, 2018 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born December 5, 1943 in Kentucky, Mr. Pulley had been a resident of Dawsonville for almost 30 years. He was a U.S. Army veteran who served in Vietnam and attended Glory Divine Baptist Church in Cumming. For many years he worked as a mechanic on all types of equipment. Earni was preceded in death by the mother of his children, Carolyn F. Haygood and daughter, Janet Leora Roser.
Surviving are his children, Rita Ellen Kauanoe of Alabama, Missy Lucille Bright of Dawsonville, Earniest Lee Pulley, Jr. of Alabama; husband-in-law, Charles Haygood of Dawsonville; 12 grandchildren; 15 great-grandchildren; other relatives.
A memorial service will be held on Sunday January 6, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Donnie Adams will officiate.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday January 4, 2019 from 4 p.m. until 7 p.m.

Jan Nix, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday December 19, 2018.
Born December 4, 1938 in Columbus, Georgia to the late George and Dorothy Nell Parkman, she lived in Dawsonville for the past 20 years having moved from Stone Mountain. A homemaker at her death, she worked for many years as a Registered Nurse. Jan enjoyed cooking, playing cards, reading and she was especially devoted to her grandchildren. A member of the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville, she was also preceded in death by her husband of 51 years, Neil Brian Nix.
Surviving are her children, Laura and Robert VanLeuven, Cumming, Brian and Jessica Nix, Cumming; grandchildren, Mackenzie VanLeuven, Evan Nix, Jackson Nix; and her pomeranian, Nellie.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 21, 2018 at 11 o’clock at the First Baptist Church of Dawsonville. Dr. Jim Gaines will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens.
The family will receive friends Thursday from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

David Winston “Red” Goode, 83, of Marble Hill, GA passed away peacefully on Monday, December 17, 2018 at Seasons Hospice IPU, Cumming, GA. He was born on September 4, 1935, to the late Boyd and Effie Goode. He was a lifelong resident of Dawson County and a member of Amicalola Baptist Church. Red had a love for Nascar, Falcons Football, Fishing and Gardening. He was a loving husband, father and papa, he earned the nickname Noah because of his love of animals. He was a Master Masonry worker for over 50 years.

He is preceded in death by his wife, Dot Goode; daughter, Sharon Goode, six brothers and two sisters.

He is survived by his daughters and sons in law, Debra and Jackie Howington of Gainesville, GA, Lynn and Dave Jospeh of Dawsonville, GA, Regina Shaw of Cumming, GA, Robin and Nathan Mooney of Dawsonville, GA; grandchildren, Jerry Shaw, Tasha and Don Hamil, Shannon and Brian Holden, Alex and Katie Shaw, Nikki and Jason Eller, Kelly Joseph Riley; twelve great grandchildren; sister, Eunice Reed; brother, Huey Goode; and numerous other nieces and nephews and other family members survive.

Funeral Services will be held on Wednesday, December 19, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with the Rev. Ronnie Bennett officiating.

The family will receive friends on Tuesday, December 18, 2018 from 12:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again on Wednesday from 11:00 until service time at the funeral home.

Loy Edward “Edd” Gaddis, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday December 12, 2018 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Mr. Gaddis was a lifelong resident of Dawsonville, born January 31, 1938 to the late John and Kate Gaddis. A U.S. Army veteran, he served as a Marine Engineer during The Cuban Missile Crisis from 1961 to 1963. Edd was an employee of J.M. Tull Metals for over 30 years until his retirement in 1999. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he enjoyed fishing and gardening. He was preceded in death by his wife of 48 years, Ellen Southern Gaddis, and several brothers and sisters.
Surviving are his daughters and sons-in-law, Connie and Shane Holt of Ellijay, Sherri and Mark Autry of Dawsonville; granddaughters, Kayla and Amber Autry; brother and sister-in-law, James and Chester Gaddis of Dawsonville; sister and brother-in-law, Annette and Gene Carnes of Dawsonville; sister, Annie Maude Gayton; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Friday December 14, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Michael Smith and Rev. Ronald Pruitt will officiate. Interment services will follow in River Hill Baptist Church Cemetery in Ellijay.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday December 13 from 12 noon until 8 p.m.

Guy H. Rouse, 92, of Dawsonville passed away peacefully on Thursday November 22, 2018.
Born August 21, 1926 to the late Duffy and Matt Rouse, he had been a resident of Dawsonville for most of his life. A member of First Baptist Church of Dawsonville, he was also preceded in death by his wife, Carlene Carter Rouse and three sisters, Louise, Rowanda and Charlotte.
Surviving are his daughters and son in law, Cecelia Rouse, Tracey and Curly Denier, all of Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Greg and Kathy Rouse, Daniel, Wyoming; sisters and brother in law, Marie Justus, Dianne King, Lana Sue and Ron McDonald; grandchildren, Camilla Watson, Cassandra Holbrook, Justin Barr, Kyle Barr, Leslie Escamilla, Cheryl Chittick; 7 great-grandchildren; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
Guy loved good times and a celebration of his life will be held Monday December 3, 2018 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m. at the Gordon Pirkle room at the Georgia Racing Hall of Fame in Dawsonville.

Cleveland Carter, 58, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday October 31, 2019 at his residence following a short illness.
Born February 15, 1961 in Gwinnett County, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 12 years having moved from Gainesville. Mr. Carter formerly was a driver for Tim Hubbard Trucking. He enjoyed working of cars, watching westerns on TV, and he was very devoted to his family. Cleveland was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by his father, Richard Carter; twin brothers, Ronald and Donald Carter; and his step-father, Jerry Lee Blalock.
Surviving are his wife of 35 years, Amy Carter, Dawsonville; children, Michael Carter, Jasper, Ricky and Crystal Carter, Jasper, Victoria Carter and her fiancé Zachery Swofford, Dawsonville, Savannah Carter and her fiancé Trent Hensley, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Juleeanna Carter, Leeland Carter, James Carter; mother, Betty Blalock, Dawsonville; sisters and brothers in law, Tina Thornton, Dawsonville, Rita and Dwight Nelson, Gainesville, Angie and Randy Lynn, Commerce, Christy and David McGee, Winder; brother and sister in law, Randy and Becky Carter, Midway; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Monday November 4, 2019 at 12 noon at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tim Hubbard will officiate. Interment will follow in the Clear Springs Baptist Church Cemetery in Johns Creek at 2 o’clock.
