William “Bill” Richard Leonhardt
1947 – 2018

William “Bill” Leonhardt, 70, of Dawsonville, GA passed away on Thursday, November 15, 2018. Born September 2, 1947 in Jamaica Queens to Margaret Colgan Leonhardt and WIlliam Leonhardt. Grew up in New Hyde Park and Melville, NY. Preceded in death by his daughter Andrea Leonhardt and sister Kathleen Fardig.
Survivors include his wife of 50 years, Dianne Stagl Leonhardt. Daughter Stacey Leonhardt-Garbos and son-in-law Andrew Garbos. Son William Leonhardt and daughter-in-law Amy Garrett Leonhardt. Granddaughters Katie Garbos, Leyna Leonhardt, Ava Garbos, and Leigha Leonhardt. Sisters and brothers-in-laws Linda Leonhardt Ryczak and Albert Ryczak, Carl Fardig, Peter Stagl, Kathryn Stagl, Sharon Stagl Doherty, and John Doherty. His Granddog Bella who had a special place in his heart.
Memorial Service will be held on Thursday, November 29, 2018 at 11:00 AM at Christ the King Lutheran Church 1125 Bettis Tribble Gap Road in Cumming, GA. There will be a gathering following the service at the church.
Bill was active in the Dawsonville community serving on the Board of Governors of Athens Boat Club, Vice-President of the Dawsonville Lions Club, Vice President of the Dawson County Friends of the Library. He was active in his church serving as a Shepherd minister, Usher, and working with Family Promise of Forsyth County.
Growing up on Long Island he was Boy Scout and a volunteer fireman of the Melville Fire Department and on their EMS rescue squad.

Robert “Bruz” Brookshire
1969 – 2018

Robert “Bruz” Brookshire, 49, of Dacula passed away Wednesday November 14, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center Braselton following a period of declining health.
Mr. Brookshire was born August 13, 1969. For a number of years he coached youth football in Dacula. A loving and devoted father, he was also an avid hunter and outdoorsman. He was preceded in death by his brother, Troy Shane Brookshire, aunt, Sheila Lockridge and uncle, Danny Sheffield.
Surviving are his wife, Michelle Brookshire of Canon, GA; children, Robert Cade Brookshire, Michael Bo Brookshire, Carli Wheeler; mother, Linda Brookshire of Winder; father, Ray Brookshire of Ranger, GA; brothers and sister in law, Steve Brookshire of Ranger, GA, Wesley and Tracey Brookshire of Colorado; grandmother, Floy Sheffield of Winder; nieces, Abbey, Maddy, Vanessa; lifelong friend and hunting buddy, Dorsey Forsyth of Cumming; a number of special cousins and other relatives.
Mr. Brookshire will be laid to rest in his family’s plot at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery in Dawsonville. A celebration of life will be held at a later date.

Sara J. Catanzano, 81, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday November 2, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born March 14, 1938 in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania to the late Nunzio and Lena Martin, she had lived in this area since 1986. Sara was Past President of the Dawson County Women’s Club, was a member of the LaSocieta Italiano (Italian American Club), and the Thursday night dinner group. She was a founding member of Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church and was also preceded in death by a sister, Ann Battaglia, and a brother, Russell Martin.
Surviving are her husband of 62 years, Sam Catanzano, Jr., and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.
A memorial mass will be held Tuesday November 5, 2019 at 11 o’clock at Christ the Redeemer Catholic Church. Fr. Brian Higgins will officiate.

Randall Scott Owen, 44, of Dawsonville passed away Monday September 16, 2019.
Born May 19, 1975, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. He was formerly employed by Vertical Earth and enjoyed hunting and camping.
Surviving are his mother, Sharlene Cleveland, Gainesville; father, James Randall Owen, Dawsonville; sister and brother in law, Angela and Everett Gilbert, Missouri; grandmother, Wilda Pirkle, Dawsonville; nephews, Uriah Gilbert and Ansel Gilbert; and a number of other relatives.
Funeral services will be held Saturday September 21, 2019 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Chris Segars will officiate. Interment will follow in the Liberty Baptist Church Cemetery.
The family will receive friends Friday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.
In lieu of flowers the family requests donations be made to the funeral home to assist with final expenses.

Louise Hitch Knight, 87, of Blue Ridge, Georgia, died peacefully in her home on Thursday, August 8, 2019. She was born in Fitzgerald, Georgia, on November 1, 1931, to Frank Hitch and Agnes Martin Hitch. She graduated from North Georgia College in 1951. Lou married Gordon E Knight in 1956. For many years she lived in Atlanta and worked for General Services Administration of the Federal Government until her retirement in 1993. She then worked for The Arthritis Foundation. In 2001, she moved to Blue Ridge. Lou loved cats, the color blue, reading books, working crossword puzzles, and her church. She had a great sense of humor and could light up a room with her smile. Lou is survived by her daughter, Marilou Knight (Rebecca Williams) and her daughters in love, Pam Garrett and Denise Ellwanger. There will be a Celebration of Life Service on September 7, 2019, at the Blue Ridge United Methodist Church at 10:00 AM. To honor Lou, please wear blue and cat items. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the Humane Society of your choice and to Georgia Mountain Hospice.

John Edward Frank Broer

John Edward Frank Broer, 54, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday May 2, 2019 at Northside Hospital Forsyth following a sudden illness.

Mr. Broer was born November 17, 1964. A resident of Lumpkin County for over 20 years, he attended New Life Church of God in Dawsonville. John worked on cars his entire life and was a very talented auto body repairman. He was currently employed at Chestatee Ford. John was the definition of a good man and would do anything for anybody. He was preceded in death by his parents, George Broer and Betty Hobbs.

Surviving are his wife, Kris McNeal Broer of Dahlonega; daughters and son in law, Cyndi and Tyler Jones of Dalonega, Keisha Nixon of Gainesville, Elizabeth McNeal of Atlanta; step-father, Carlton Hobbs of Cumming; sisters, Murri Broer and Robin Russell of Dacula, Jeannie and Dennis McMurry of North Carolina; brothers, Robert Broer of Louisiana, James Broer of Talmo, GA; mother in law, Faye Cleveland of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Kaylee, Ansley, Delen; special nieces, Ayla, Anna; a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday May 5, 2019 at 4 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Owens will officiate.
The family will receive friends Sunday May 5, 2019 from 12 noon until 4 p.m. at the funeral home.
