Cecil Lyman Bennett, 79, of Dawsonville passed away Monday July 30, 2018 at his home surrounded by his loving family.

Born April 15, 1939 to the late Laina Bennett and Gladys Jenkins Bennett, he was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Cecil retired from Vineland Labs following 37 years of service after which he became a Community Liaison at Walmart where many will remember his warm wit and friendly smile. Mr. Bennett’s civic contributions included serving on the Dawson County Board of Commissioners and serving 25 years on the Dawson County Board of Education. He was a member of Liberty Baptist Church where he served as a deacon fro 51 years as well as numerous other church positions and responsibilities. Cecil considered his greatest accomplishment and main source of happiness his wife, children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was also preceded in death by a brother, Troy Lane Bennett, and son in law, Bobby Bagby.

Surviving are his wife of 57 years, Sandra Tatum Bennett, Dawsonville; children, Teresa and Phillip Burt, Dawsonville, Penny Bagby, Zeeland, Michigan, Russ and Susan Bennett, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Lauren and Blake Samples, Raina and Kyle Baker, Mallory and Jimmy Bayer, Chelsea Bagby, Ben Bagby, Jake Bennett, Eli Bennett; great grandchildren, Lainey Baker, Silas Baker, Peyton Samples, Gracelyn Baker; brothers and sisters in law, Wayne and Diane Bennett, Flowery Branch, Ricky and Kathy Bennett, Dawsonville brothers in law and sisters in law, Jack Tatum, Charles and Judy Tatum, Deborah and Ron Storey, John Tatum; and a host of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday August 3, 2018 at 2 o’clock at Liberty Baptist Church. Rev. Dennis Bottoms, Rev. Phillip Burt, and Rev. Stephen Davis will officiate. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

Malinda H. Johnson, 74, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday July 7, 2018 at Chelsey Park Healthcare in Dahlonega surrounded by her loving family.

Born July 29, 1943 in Hightower, Alabama to the late Gus and L.C. Hurst, she had been a resident of Dawson County for over 20 years having moved from Cumming. Malinda was a graduate of Bowdon High School and also attended Massey Business School. She worked alongside her husband in his business ventures and later became a homemaker to focus on her children. A loving and devoted wife, mother, and grandmother she enjoyed entertaining family and friends. In her later years she especially enjoyed her grandchildren who affectionately called her “Mimi”. She was preceded in death by her husband, David E. Johnson.

Surviving are her children, Joan and Eric Grabau, Gainesville, James Johnson and Gina Black, Dawsonville, Beverly and Martin Wilson, Big Canoe; grandchildren, Tyler and Drew Grabau, Lauren, Nathan and Blake Wilson; sister, Mary Anne Cook, Bremen; brother and sister in law, Robert and Mary Ann Hurst, Bremen; aunt, Ora Walker, Bowdon; loving friend, Regina Barnes, Dahlonega; other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday July 12, 2018 at 11 a.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. David Jordan will officiate. Interment services will follow at Georgia National Cemetery at 2 p.m.

Pamella Burt Schlesinger, 62, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday June 24, 2018 at Northside Forsyth Hospital following a period of declining health.

Born October 5, 1955 in Atlanta, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. She was formerly employed as an accountant at the home office of Waffle House after which she worked at WalMart in Dawsonville. Pamella and her husband loved to travel and her favorite places were the beach on Tybee Island and quiet times in a mountain cabin. She recently fulfilled a lifelong dream of flying to California, renting a car, and driving the California beach line. Pamella was of the Baptist faith and was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Schlesinger and father, Charles Burt, Sr.

Surviving are her mother, Betty Ellenburg Burt, Dawsonville; sisters and brothers in law, Ellen and John McDaris, Bogart, Cheryl and Bob Kelley, Buford; brother and sister in law, Chuck and Suzette Burt, Dawsonville; and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Memorial services will be held Saturday July 14, 2018 at 3 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Dr. Jimmy Orr will officiate.

Jerry Lee Ingram, 46, of Dawsonville, GA passed away unexpectedly on Saturday, June 9, 2018 at his residence. He was born to the late Rual and Eunice Ingram. He was a life long resident of Dawson County. He loved to restore and collect old cars and hot rods, and loved to fish.

He is preceded in death by his brother, Johnny Ray Ingram.

He is survived by his brother, James Ingram of Dawsonville, GA; sister and brother in law, Shirley and Glenn McDaniel of Dawsonville, GA; and numerous other relatives and friends.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, June 15, 2018 at 2:00 p.m. at the Bearden Funeral Home Chapel, with the Rev. Casey Martin officiating. Interment will follow the funeral at Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery, Dawsonville, GA.

The family will receive friends on Thursday from 5:00 – 8:00 p.m. and again on Friday from 12:00 until service time at the funeral home.

Janice W. Powell, 70, of Dawsonville passed away Monday May 7, 2018 at her residence. Born February 16, 1948 in Pickens County to the late Alvin and Myrtis Ray, she lived most of her life in Dawson County. Janice worked many years as a beautician and was a member of Foothills Community Church. She was an extremely devoted wife, mother and grandmother. Also preceding her in death was a sister, Sherry Ray.

Surviving are her husband of 51 years, Gary Powell, Dawsonville; son and daughter in law, Derrick and Nicole Powell, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Megan Powell, Jacob Powell; sisters, Jane Baugh, Dawsonville, Brenda Ray, Dawsonville; brothers, Jerry Ray, Dawsonville, David Ray, Dawsonville, Calvin Ray, Cleveland; and a number of other relatives.

Floyd Chester, 75, of Cumming passed away Saturday April 28, 2018 at Seasons Hospice following a period of declining health.

Born and raised in Dawsonville, Floyd has been a resident of Cumming for over fifty years. A family man, hard worker, avid outdoorsman and faithful friend, he was known for his humor, quick wit and “smart mouth.” Floyd was of Christian faith and worked for over thirty years with Larry Watson Digging. He was preceded in death by his mother, Hattie “Punk” Kincaid and son, David Chester.
Surviving are his previous wife, Brenda Ramey, son, Jeffery Chester, brother, Jimmy Kincaid, all of Dawsonville, granddaughter, Jessica Chester of Cumming, great-granddaughter, Penelope Chester, sisters in law, Dorothy Collins of Cumming, Patricia Collins Stephens of Pickens, SC, and a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

The family will receive friends at Bearden Funeral Home on Monday April 30, 2018 beginning at 1 p.m. with a memorial service at 3 p.m. in the funeral home chapel. Rev. Rual Martin will officiate. The family will meet at 4:30 p.m. at Sawnee View Memorial Gardens for interment.

Born March 9, 1933 to the late John and Ruby Pinion, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed by Hasco. Kathleen was a very devoted wife, mother, grandmother and was a member of Dawsonville Baptist Church. She was also preceded in death by her husband, David Goswick; sisters, Louise Bradford, Eloise Bramblett, Edith Gee, Susie McGahee; brothers, Cliff Pinion, Tommy Pinion; and her first husband, Gene Anderson.
Surviving are her children, Ronnie and Kim Anderson, Dawsonville, Donnie Anderson, Dawsonville, Debbie Sexton, Cumming, Ricky and Dianne Goswick, Dawsonville, Karen Castleberry, Dawsonville, Denise and Carroll Jennings, Dawsonville, Randy Goswick, Dawsonville, Janet and Tim Byrd, Dawsonville; 27 grandchildren, 25 great grandchildren; sister, Margaret Porter, Hapeville; sister in law, Annie Lou Pinion, Dawsonville; special cousin, Ellie Lou “Eddielou” Neal, Cumming; and a number of other relatives.
