Richard S. Wessinger, 68, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday July 3, 2018 at his residence.
Born May 5, 1950 in Atlanta, GA to the late Sam and Evelyn Wessinger, he had lived in Lumpkin County since 1994. Mr. Wessinger retired from AT&T following 35 years of service after which he was employed by Dawson County. Richard enjoyed restoring automobiles, his motorcycle, fishing and was very devoted to his family. A member of First Redeemer Church, he was also preceded in death by a brother, Walter Wessinger.

Surviving are his wife of 26 years, Alvalee Wessinger, Dawsonville; children, Elyse and Dan Clark, Dawsonville, Wade and Nicole Boothe, Clayton, NC; grandchildren, Hailey Boothe, Grace Boothe, Wiley Clark, Jacob and Autumn Harshman; great granddaughter, Presley Harshman; brother and sister in law, Frank and Lynn Wessinger, Dawsonville.

Memorial services will be held Friday July 6, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ray Rhodes will officiate.

Martha Grogan Fowler, 94, of Dahlonega passed away Wednesday June 20, 2018.

Born September 6, 1923 in Dawson County to the late Roy and Lillie Mae Grogan, she lived most of her life in Atlanta before moving to Lumpkin County in 2003. A homemaker at her death, Mrs. Fowler retired from the A&P Tea Company after 42 years of service. She was of the Presbyterian faith and was also preceded in death by her husband, John Curtis Fowler.

Surviving are her children, Buff Wiley, Steinhatchee, FL, Wylene Cheek, Dahlonega, Carlene Lewis, Cumming; sister, Louise King, Maryland; five grandchildren, 10 great grandchildren, and three great great grandchildren.

Graveside services will be held Tuesday June 26, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Concord Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev. David Feathers will officiate.

Ted Wayne Canup, 42, of Dawsonville passed away Friday June 15, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. Born August 2, 1975 in Spalding County to the late Alfred Rudess and Elizabeth Janice Chumbley Canup, he had lived in Dawson County for the past 12 years having moved from Griffin.

Surviving are his sister, Trina Brown, Dawsonville; brother and sister in law, Tony and Opal Canup, Griffin; aunt and uncle, Judy and Bill Abercrombie, Gainesville; and a number of nieces and nephews.
At his request, Mr. Canup was cremated and memorial services will be held at a later date.

Jeffrey Wayne “J. D.” Disharoon, 52, of Dawsonville passed away Monday May 14, 2018. Born March 16, 1966 in Atlanta, he lived most of his life in Dawsonville. J. D. worked doing all types of carpentry but specialized in flooring. An accomplished musician, he had written hundreds of songs and enjoyed playing his guitar and singing every chance he got. He never went anywhere without his guitar. He was also creative in other arts and enjoyed fishing and spending time with his children and grandson. J. D. was preceded in death by his mother, Patricia “Pat” Vaughn.

Surviving are his companion, Kathy Thorn, Dawsonville; children, Jeffery Disharoon, Melody Disharoon and Allen Williams, Jacey Disharoon, Maddox Disharoon, all of Cumming; grandson, Zeppelin Williams; father, Marcus Disharoon, Dawsonville; sister, Tami Nelson, Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.

Johan *John* Peulen passed away peacefully Friday April 20, 2018 suddenly in his sleep.
We will miss you very much! Born on April 5, 1945, he was a Dawson County Resident for almost 10 years. For many years he worked as an Engineer for the Brick Industry where he  remodeled and modernized brick plants. He loved what he did and was very good at it. He traveled to many places in the world and enjoyed it for many years. John was always caring, kind and very knowledgeable.  Being retired, he loved volunteering at the Ric-Rack for many years and  also volunteered at Christ Fellowship Church. John was the kind of man, husband, dad and grandpa who would do anything for anyone to be able to help. He also loved to sit down, tell stories and have long conversations with people.  He loved and cared very much about his wife, daughter and the cat, Kikie, his son and grandson’s. He was preceded in death by his father Ludwig Peulen and mother Ida Peulen.

*Surviving are his mother in law Emmie Jepp-Gruter, his wife Marina Peulen-Jepp of Dawsonville, his daughter Natalie Peulen of Dawsonville, his son Sven Peulen of Sugar Hill, his two grandson’s Aden and Hunter Peulen of Sugar Hill and his brother Ludwig Peulen Holland NL.  And many more cousins, nephews, nieces and more family members living in Holland and Germany. April Chumbley Glancy, 44, of Dawsonville passed away Monday April 16, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Born January 17, 1974 in Austell, Georgia, she had lived in Dawson County for the past 9 years having moved from Canton. A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed in customer service. April was very devoted to her family and was a member of Juno Baptist Church. She was preceded in death by her grandparents, Al and JoAnn Leonard, Carthel and Zula Chumbley, and her biological father, Gerald Collins.

Surviving are her daughters, Catherine Chumbley, Kelsey Glancy; granddaughter, Sophia Sneen; parents, Ron and Brenda Chumbley; brother and sister in law, Gerald and Rose Chumbley, all of Dawsonville; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday April 19, 2018 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Brody Hughes will officiate. Interment will follow in the Juno Baptist Church cemetery.
The family will receive friends Wednesday from 4 until 8 at the funeral home.

Ruby Jean Turner, 71, of Dawsonville passed away Monday April 16, 2018 following a period of declining health.

Born September 2, 1946, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Ruby Jean was a member of New Life Church of God and worked for many years at Burlington Industries in Dahlonega. She enjoyed quilting with her mother and visiting her daughter at the beach. A caring and gentle woman, she loved to laugh and with a sweet smile would do anything for anyone. She is preceded in death by her father, Grady Ingram and brother, Cecil Ingram.

Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Jeannie Reece and Scott Davis of Orange Beach, Alabama; mother, Irene Collier of Dawsonville; granddaughter, Josie Everett of Gainesville; great-grandsons, Isaiah Everett, Hunter Coates; sister and brother in law, Dianne and Tony Allison of Dawsonville; brother, Clinton Ingram of Dawsonville; special cousin, Joan Pinion Gibbs of Dawsonville; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Friday April 20, 2018 at 4 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel with Rev. Mike Owens, Rev. Tony Allison and Rev. Eric Watson officiating. Interment will follow in Dawsonville City Cemetery.

The family will receive friends on Thursday April 19 from 2 p.m. until 8 p.m. at the funeral home.

Mary Catherine Turner, 72, of Dawsonville, GA passed away at Northside Hospital Forsyth after a period of declining health. She was born to the late Raymond and Mae Davis. She resided in Dawsonville for the past 22 years. She was a loving mother and grandmother who loved to play bingo and cheer on her Atlanta Braves as well as all other sports. She was a member of the Faternal Order of the Eagles for 30 plus years.  She is preceded in death by husband, J. L. Turner, brothers, James Davis, Bill Davis and sister, Patricia Vetten. She is survived by her children, Ronda and Kelly Edwards of Dawsonville, GA, Randy and Angela Turner of Lawrenceville, GA; sister, Evelyn Hyrns of Jasper, GA; brothers, Ernie and Teresa Davis of Lithonia, GA, Raymond Davis of Jackson, GA; grandchildren, Dayna Edwards of Dawsonville, GA, Dalton Edwards of Dawsonville, GA, Kyle Turner of Lawrenceville, GA, Dylan Edwards of Dawsonville, GA; and many other relatives.  Funeral Services will be held on Monday, March 5, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. at the Chapel of Bearden Funeral Home with the Rev Scott Sorrells officiating. James Comer Hall, 78, of Cumming passed away Friday March 2, 2018 at his residence following an extended illness. Born Dec. 17, 1939 to the late William and Mary Hall he had been a resident of Forsyth County for almost 50 years. Mr. Hall was a member of Amicalola Baptist Church and a U.S. Air Force veteran. He owned and operated numerous businesses throughout his life. In recent years he was dedicated to real estate and property management. A loving husband, father and papa, he worked extremely hard, loved the Lord and cared deeply for everyone he was acquainted with. Surviving are his wife of 55 years, Doris Hall, Cumming; daughters and son in law, Lisa and Jeff Perkins, Dawsonville, LeighAnn Strickland, Cumming; special niece and her family, Leslie and Andrew Glover, Caleb and Ellery, Ballground; grandchildren, Eve and Cory Jackson, Emma Perkins, Jewel Strickland, Samuel Strickland; sister, Joyce Bartlett, Warner Robbins; brother in law, Phillip Chumley, Cumming; nieces and nephew, Raina Bartlett, Wendy Brewer, Zane Mullis; a number of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held Monday March 5, 2018 at 3 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Gary Martin, Rev. Dean Pugh and Rev. Dave Holbrook will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.
