Two killed in crash on Ga. 400 North today

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Dawson County Emergency Services Director Danny Thompson confirmed today that two people were killed in a two-vehicle wreck on Ga. 400 North near Henry Grady Highway.
The northbound side of Ga. 400 is closed. Thompson said the roadway will be closed for an extended period of time. Drivers are advised to avoid the area until further notice.
The Georgia State Patrol is investigating the accident.

Head-on collision in Dawson County closes Hwy. 53

On August 31, 2018 at 08:09, Dawson County Emergency Services (DCFES) responded to a head-on collision in the area of Highway 53/Highway 183. This was a passenger vehicle versus tractor trailer incident; crews found one female victim entrapped in her vehicle. DCFES Company 1 utilized the “Jaws of Life” to extricate the patient from the vehicle at 8:27am.One female was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in stable condition with non-life threatening injuries. DCFES Station 6 responded for manpower to assist with the extrication of the patient.
SFC Curtis W. Bradshaw with Georgia State Patrol, reported that the Toyota Camry was driven by 30 year old Ashley Enyart of Marble Hill, GA. The tractor trailer was driven by 62 year old Miguel Arrieta-Villarreal of Woodstock, GA. Enyart was traveling West on Highway 53, when she crossed the centerline in the left hand curve. Arrieta-Villarreal was traveling east on Highway 53 and was negotiating a downhill right hand curve; the Toyota Camry struck the left front corner of the Freightliner tractor trailer. After impact, the Camry rotated approximately 180 degrees and came to rest facing east in the westbound lane. After impact, the Freight-liner continued traveling east and ran off the roadway onto the north shoulder striking a ditch and embankment.
Enyart was transported by ambulance to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville where she was treated for her injuries and released. Mr. Arrieta-Villarreal had a complaint of injury but declined transport to the hospital.
According to DCFES, the incident closed Highway 53 between the intersection of Hwy 183 and Duck Thurmond Rd, but has since been reopened.
Both drivers were wearing their seatbelts. Drugs and alcohol do not appear to be involved or a factor. There was no evidence either driver was distracted at the time of the crash. Enyart was cited for driving on the wrong side of the road.

Shooting at Dalton High School

DALTON, Ga. – The Dalton Police Department is on scene at Dalton High School where shots have been fired.
Dalton Police report that no student was injured by the shooting and all students are out of harm’s way. They also report the subject, a teacher, has been taken into custody.
The subject had barricaded themselves into a classroom earlier today before firing a weapon. Local police and Georgia State Patrol responded to the initial call. Concerning those reports that have come about a student injured during the evacuation, the Dalton Police were adamant that no student was injured by the shooting.
Police are also asking parents to NOT go to Dalton High School as they say, “The area inside the school has been evacuated and there are no students believed to be in the school at this time.”
The evacuated students have been taken to the Northwest Georgia Trade Center where police report parents should go for their children.
GSP Identifies Remaining Victims in 4th of July Crash That Killed 15-Year-Old Girl

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – The Georgia State Patrol has released the names of the other victims in the Fourth of July wreck on Lumpkin Campground Road that killed 15-year-old Eliza Farrell of Suwanee.
A GSP spokesperson said in an email that Xavier Sanchez, 16, the driver of the car in which Farrell was a passenger, Rachel Rajczak and Kevin Arias were also injured although she did not provide their ages, the extent of their injuries or place of residence.
The driver of the other vehicle, 21-year-old Brayden Clark of Loganville, was injured and taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Farrell, Rajczak and Arias were passengers in a vehicle that was stopped at a stop sign on Lumpkin Campground Road, when it was struck by the Clark vehicle.
According to the email, the Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team is investigating the accident. There is no word yet on if any charges have been filed.
Motorcyclist Killed While Fleeing From Police

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – An unidentified man was killed Friday afternoon when the 2006 Suzuki GSXR motorcycle he was riding struck another vehicle that was entering the southbound lane of Ga. Hwy 400 from the new Dawson 400 circle.
A Georgia State Police trooper from Post 37 in Cumming had attempted to stop the motorcyclist for speeding near the Dawson Lumpkin county line but the motorcyclist fled south on Ga. Hwy. 400. According to the accident report, the motorcyclist was weaving in and out of traffic when he struck the left front corner of a 2014 Hyundai Sonata, overturned, careened into the median, struck a sign, broke into several pieces, and caught fire. The driver of the motorcycle was thrown from the motorcycle and died at the scene. He has not been identified pending notification of next of kin.
The driver of the Hyundai was Melissa Dawn Litton, 36 of Gainesville. Also in the car was a one-year-old male who was in a rear-facing child restraint seat. Neither was injured.
Dawson County Sheriff’s Office deputies aided the Georgia State Patrol in attempting to stop the motorcycle but neither was involved in the crash.
Alcohol and drugs are not suspected at this time for either driver.
One northbound lane and one southbound lane of Ga. 400 was shut down for more than four hours.
The motorcycle did not have a tag and was not insured at the time of the crash.
Authorities Release Description of Car Involved in Fatal Hit-and-Run

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – Authorities now have a general description of the vehicle involved in a fatal hit-and-run Monday evening in Dawson County.
According to the Georgia State Patrol’s Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, they are searching for either a 2009 or 2010 Mercury Mariner or Ford Escape that has damage to the front passenger side.
Bobby Eugene Wells, 80, of Dawsonville was killed while walking from the Chestatee Worship Center across Dawson Forest Road.

Jasper Woman Dies in Dawson County Wreck

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. – A Jasper woman was killed and a two-year-old girl is believed to be in critical condition following a single-vehicle accident on Hwy. 53 Wednesday east of Dawsonville.
Georgia State Patrol reports that 69-year-old Frances Louise Duncan was killed when the 2009 Kia Sportage she was driving failed to negotiate a left-hand curve, traveled off the south shoulder and into a ditch, striking the embankment of a deep drainage culvert. The vehicle then overturned with the front and hood area against the embankment and the rear of the vehicle facing up. Duncan was not wearing a seat belt at the time of the accident.
An unidentified two-year-old female was also in the vehicle and she was transported by Emergency Management Services to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, where she was believed to be in critical condition, before being airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment.
Dawsonville Man Killed By Hit and Run Driver

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – An 80-year-old Dawsonville man as killed Monday night while walking south across Dawson Forest Road from Chestatee Worship Center toward Pinewood Trail.
The Georgia State Patrol has identified the deceased as Bobby Eugene Wells and said he was the victim of a hit and run driver. Authorities do not have a description of the vehicle or know who was driving.
Wells was pronounced dead at the scene.
Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team (SCRT) is assisting in the investigation of the crash. If anyone has information in regards to this crash or the vehicle which left the scene, please contact Georgia State Patrol, Post 37 Cumming at 770-205-5400.
Loganville Man Charged With Vehicular Homicide in Fourth of July Wreck That Killed 15-Year Old Girl

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. –Brayden Lewis Clark, 21, of Loganville faces multiple charges, including vehicular homicide in connection with the Fourth of July auto accident that killed 15-year-old Eliza Farrell of Suwanee and injured four people.
According to the accident report filed by Georia State Patrol Trooper T.J. Matthews, Clark, who was driving a Dodge Ram truck south on Lumpkin Campground Road, failed to stop at a four-way stop sign at the intersection of Industrial Park Road and struck a 2006 Acura driven by 16-year-old Xavier Sanchez on the passenger side.
Farrell was pronounced dead at the scene. Sanchez and the other passengers in his car, Rachel Marie Rajczak, 15, and Kevin Arias, 16, all suffered non-fatal injuries. They were extricated from the vehicle with the jaws of life and transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville.
Jessica Sullens, 36, of Dahlonega, who witnessed the accident, told Matthews she saw Clark stop at the stop sign. But, in a written statement, she recanted that statement and said he did not stop but that he had told her to say that.
She also told the officer that he was “lit,” meaning he was intoxicated.
Clark is being held in the Dawson County Detention Center on $40,000 bond.

One Killed, Four Injured in Crash on Lumpkin Campground Road on 4th of July

DAWSONVILE, Ga. – A Suwanee teenager was killed and four other people injured in a two-car crash Wednesday at 9:25 p.m. on Lumpkin Campground Road at the intersection of Industrial Park Road.
Killed in the accident was 15-year-old Eliza Farrell, a passenger in a 2006 Acura TSX that was struck on the passenger’s side by a 2011 Dodge Ram truck driven by Brayden Lewis Clark, 21, of Loganville.
According to a report by the Georgia State Patrol, Clark was traveling south on Lumpkin Campground Road and failed to stop at the four-way stop sign at the intersection of Industrial Park Road. The Acura was traveling west on Industrial Park.
Clark and three others, who were not identified, were, transported by Dawson County Emergency Services to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville in undetermined condition.

Dawson County Crash Injures Cumming Man

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – A Cumming man was seriously injured in a fiery two-car collision on Ga. Hwy. 183 in Dawson County Thursday morning.
The incident was investigated by the Georgia State Patrol Cumming Post. According to their report, Justin Paul Cochran, 22, of Cumming was driving a 2006 Infinity G-35 north on Hwy. 183 and attempting to negotiate a right-hand curve when he lost control on a wet roadway and began to hydroplane. His vehicle then crossed the centerline and struck a southbound 2017 Dodge Ram truck driven by Robert William Buice, 20, of Dawsonville.
Cochran was trapped inside his vehicle after the crash until fire personnel from the Dawson County Fire Department could extricate him using the jaws of life.
Cochran was transported to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville with serious injuries that were not initially believed to be life threatening. Buice was not injured in the crash.
Both drivers were wearing their seat belts at the time of the crash. There were no other passengers in either vehicle. Drugs and alcohol were not a factor in this collision. Slick tires on the Infiniti were believed to be a factor.
Cochran will be charged for failing to maintain his lane and for having slick tires on his vehicle.

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – The man killed in a motorcycle accident on Ga. Hwy. 400 near the new Dawsonville 400 circle Friday has been identified as Charles Arnold Painter, 48, of Hapeville, Ga.

Our interview Friday with Speaker of The House David Ralston focused on rural Georgia. Ralston went into detail about the new Rural Georgia Economic Council. This council will be co-chaired by (R) Terry England from Auburn, (R) Jay Powell from Camilla and Vice Chair (R) Sam Watson from Moultry. The council will be holding meetings across Georgia to hear from elected officials, local businesses and citizens about how they feel rural Georgia economy can best be improved. Ralston said jokingly that he better not find out that one meeting took place in Atlanta.
Health care is a major concern in rural Georgia. Several hospitals have closed in rural Georgia areas including one in Ralston’s district in North Georgia. We spoke to Ralston abut one possible solution to meet rural Georgia health care needs. Ralston used the example of the first stand alone emergency room, opened by Piedmont Mountainside Hospital in Gilmer county. In this interview we asked Ralston if Gilmer county still had the possibility of having a full hospital.
Ralston told us that sometime within the next month Governor Nathan Deal would be visiting Gilmer county’s Fire Station 1 to sign the fire fighter’s workmen’s compensation bill. We asked Ralston the difference in this years campus carry bill opposed to last year’s bill which Governor Deal vetoed. Not being able to speak for the Governor, Ralston said he felt they made the changes necessary to get Deal to sign the bill. We also discussed the pay raises agreed upon in the 2017 legislative session for teachers, state law enforcement, and D.F.C.S workers.

Cumming Woman Charged in Hit-And-Run Death

CUMMING, Ga. – A Cumming woman has been arrested in connection with the hit-and-run death of 80-year-old Bobby Eugene Wells of Dawsonville Oct. 9 on Dawson Forest Road in Dawson County.
The Georgia State Patrol Post 37, Georgia State Patrol Specialized Collision Reconstruction Team, along with investigators from the Dawson County District Attorney’s Office, Dawson County Sheriff’s Office, Dawson County Communications, and Lanier Technical College Police, arrested Sherri Lynn Jennings, 44, of Cumming Wednesday.
Jennings is charged with homicide by vehicle, first degree hit and run, fnailure to report an accident and failure to maintain lane in connection with the incident.
The vehicle in the suspected hit and run was located by investigators at an address inside Forsyth County on Wednesday.
Further Details will be forthcoming at a later date as the incident is still under investigation.

Child Dies of Injuries in Wednesday Car Wreck

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. – The 2-year-old child injured in an automobile accident in Dawson County Wednesday has died.
Georgia State Patrol has identified the child as Adelyn Eubanks of Ball Ground. Following the accident, Eubanks was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville, then airlifted to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment.
The child was in a vehicle driven by Louise Duncan, 69, of Jasper. The incident report indicated that Duncan ran off Georgia 53, into a ditch and hit a drainage culvert. Duncan was pronounced dead at the scene.
