Danny Duff

Danny Duff, 59, of Dawsonville passed away Saturday March 16, 2019.

Born January 15, 1960, Danny had been a resident of Dawsonville for most of his life. He established and led the Circle of Prayer ICU ministry at Crossroads Baptist Church where he was an active member. A hard working and devoted family man, Danny was a beloved husband, father, grandfather, son and brother. He never met a stranger, enjoyed life and lived each day to the fullest. An avid outdoorsman, he loved fishing most of all. Danny was preceded in death by his father, J.A. “Bunky” Duff; mother in law, Lula Townsend; and sister in law, Tammy Townsend.

Surviving are his wife of 40 years, Lisa Duff of Dawsonville; children, Darren and Kimberly Duff of Acworth, Dana and Brendan Murphy of Cumming; mother and step father, Carolyn and Jimmy Seabolt of Cleveland; grandchildren, Terence Murphy, Connor Murphy, Amy Marie Duff; brothers and sisters in law, Randall and Brandy Duff of Cleveland, Tony Seabolt of Cleveland; sister and brother in law, Shanda and David Murphy of Cleveland; brother in law and sister in law, Joel and Melanie Townsend of Cumming; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday March 21, 2019 at 2 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Garry English, Rev. Brody Hughes and Rev. Rodney Pilcher will officiate. Interment will follow in Crossroads Baptist Church Cemetery.

The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Wednesday March 20 from 3 p.m. until 8 p.m. and Thursday from 10 a.m. until the hour of service.

Betty Jane Swenson

Betty Jane Swenson, 87, of Dawsonville passed away Monday March 11, 2019 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a long illness.

Born January 23, 1932 in Tallahassee, FL to the late Max O. and Emma Watson, she had lived in Dawsonville since 2008 having moved from McDonough. Along with her husband, they owned and operated A-OK Heating and Cooling. Betty was a wonderfully funny, strong, loving woman who was adored by all. She will be greatly missed by all who knew her. The family would like to give a special thanks to all who assisted with her care the past few years. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Merlyn E. “Mike” Swenson; and brothers, Ralph Watson, Tommy Watson, Max Watson, and T. C. Raker.

Surviving are her children, Mary Evelyn and Darrell DeVane, Lawrenceville, GA, David and Sue Swenson, Concord, GA, Bill Swenson, Dawsonville, GA; sister, June Revells, Chattahoochee, FL; brother and sister in law, Rudy and Johanna Watson, Tallahassee, FL; and numerous incredibly loved grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held Friday March 15, 2019 at 1 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Pastor Melinda Gilreath will officiate.
Interment services will be held Saturday March 16, 2019 at 2 o’clock in the Oakland Cemetery in Tallahassee, Florida where she will be buried beside her parents.

Pat Anderson

Pat Anderson, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Sunday February 24, 2019 at her residence following a period of declining health.

Born September 20, 1938 to the late Ralph and Dorothy Voigt, Pat was raised in Merrill, Wisconsin. She had been a resident of Dawsonville for over ten years coming from Forsyth County. Pat’s philosophy in life was always to give back to the community. She accomplished many things throughout her life including being part of a group that started a Montessori school in Berea, Ohio and serving as a teacher and director of Eastminster Presbyterian Preschool in Stone Mountain for 25 years. Alongside her husband she helped grow the US Freestyle Wrestling Federation from 300 kids to over 4,000 and also helped establish and operate the Dawson County Humane Society where she spent every Saturday for ten years doing off-site adoptions. A loving wife, mother and grandmother, she enjoyed quilting and had donated over 100 quilts to Eagle Ranch.

Surviving are her husband of almost 60 years, Russ Anderson; daughter and son in law, Marcey and Butch Dyer of Florida; sons and daughter in law, Jeff Anderson of Decatur, Rick and Angela Anderson of LaGrange; six grandchildren, Jessica, Christina, Mitzi, Zach, James, Austin; brother, Richard Voygt of Wisconsin; and other relatives.

A memorial service will be held Saturday March 2, 2019 at 1 p.m. at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Owens will officiate.

The family will receive friends from 12 noon until the hour of service on Saturday.

Ethel Mae Odum, 100, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday February 21, 2019 at Grandview Nursing Home following a period of declining health.

Born October 18, 1918 to the late Ed and Bertie Mae Odum, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Ethel retired from Jesse Jewell following many years of service. She enjoyed crocheting, cooking, gardening and spent her life in service to others.

Surviving are a host of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday February 24, 2019 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens.

The family will receive friends Saturday from 6 until 8 at the funeral home.

Eddie Chester, 59, of Dahlonega, formerly of Dawsonville, passed away Thursday January 3, 2019 at his residence following a period of declining health.
Born April 27, 1959 to the late Coy and Vivian Chester, Eddie was a native of Dawson County but had lived in Lumpkin County for the past 35 years. A graduate of Dawson County High School, Eddie was an accomplished artist specializing in pencil sketching and painting. He also worked many years as a painting contractor. A loving husband, daddy, Pop, brother, uncle, cousin and friend, he was a member of the Harbor Worship Center. Mr. Chester was also preceded in death by a daughter, Amanda Chester.
Surviving are his wife, Robin Chester, Dawsonville; daughters and sons in law, Tammy Lynn Chester and Adam Sullens, Dahlonega, Becky Chester, Dahlonega, Levi Chester, Dahlonega, Misty and David Kobor, Dawsonville, Michelle and Jason Nall, Dawsonville, Micheal and Christy Castleberry, Dawsonville; eleven grandchildren; sisters and brothers in law, Joann Harrison, Braselton, Wanda and Scott Clayton, Dahlonega, Paulette and Jimmy Gee, Dawsonville, Donna and Johnny Thomas, Dawsonville; brothers and sister in law, L. Jason was born March 7, 1976 to the late James and Betty Waters. He worked in residential construction and enjoyed hunting, fishing and camping. Mr. Waters was a member of Antioch Baptist Church.
Surviving are his wife, Kimberly Waters; children, Davidson Waters, Harley Waters, Victoria Waters, J. W. Johnny L. Holtzclaw, 63, of Dawsonville passed away Thursday November 8, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a period of declining health.
Born June 8, 1955 to the late Lester and Marcell Holtzclaw, he had been a resident of Dawsonville for over 30 years after spending a large part of his life in Forsyth County. Johnny worked as a carpenter and for many years was employed by the Wallace family at Country Cupboard Food Stores where he worked as a maintenance tech and held many certifications. A loving and devoted husband, father and grandfather, he was lovingly known as “Papa J”.
Surviving are his wife of 47 years, Vama Holtzclaw of Dawsonville; children, Johnny Holtzclaw, Adam Holtzclaw, Tony and Elisha Holtzclaw, all of Dawsonville, Shana and Pio Carreras of Nevada; sisters and brothers in law, Wansley and W.C. Parker of Cleveland, Alice and Mark West of Canton, Dorothy and Gerry Sullivan of Cumming, Janice Holtzclaw of Villa Rica, Tammie Hildebrant of Dawsonville; brothers and sister in law, Ray Holtzclaw, Michael and Sandy Holtzclaw, all of Dawsonville; grandchildren, Samantha, Cynthia, Kevin, Kailyn, Kyler, Danielle, Karlee, Kristen, Aiden, Zacchaeus, Josiah, Cheyenne, Perry, Rebekah, Parker, Mackennah; great-grandchildren, Brailyn, Avia, Emberly, Jailyn, Ariana; a number of nieces, nephews and other relatives.

Joshua C. “Josh” Jones, 36, of Dawsonville passed away suddenly on Saturday October 27, 2018.
Josh was born May 7, 1982 and was a lifelong resident of Dawson County.
Surviving is the mother of his sons, Jennifer Nicole Ross. He was a very devoted father to his sons, Aiden Jones, Xander Jones; and is also survived by his parents, J. C. and Nora Jones, Dawsonville; brother, Matthew Jones; and his fiancé, Mary Anne Watson, all of Dawsonville.
A celebration of Josh’s life will be held Friday November 2, 2018 at 4 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Owens will officiate.
