Carolyn S. Rast, 80, of Dawsonville passed away Monday August 6, 2018 at her residence.
Born December 15, 1937 in Madden, Mississippi to the late James T. and Lorilla Sanders, she had lived in Dawson County since 1988 having moved from Dunwoody. A homemaker at her death, Carolyn was formerly employed by Computer Communications Specialists after which she worked at Honda Finance. She enjoyed gardening, jigsaw puzzles and art. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, she was also preceded in death by a granddaughter, Allison Wise.

Surviving are her children, Darryll A. Rast, Rome, GA, Lisa Wise, Dawsonville, Brian and Darlene Rast, Dawsonville; grandchildren, Russell Wise, Kristen Rast, Kyle Rast, Hunter Rast; sister and brother in law, Vivian and Jerry Dobbins, Millington, TN.

Memorial services will be held Saturday August 11, 2018 at 1 o’clock at Bethel United Methodist Church. Dr. David Sanders will officiate.

James R. “Jim” Burt, 83, of Dahlonega passed away Saturday June 23, 2018 at Northeast Georgia Medical Center following a brief illness.

Born November 22, 1934 in Dawson County to the late Rob and Sally Burt, he lived in the Dawson, Forsyth and Lumpkin County area all his life. He was currently a resident of Gold City Assisted Living in Dahlonega and loved the Dawsonville and Dahlonega area with all his heart and soul. This is where his life began and this is where he wanted it to expire and rest. Back in the early days he carried on the tradition of his father and became a moonshiner. If anyone should ask, he was a farmer. One federal judge referred to him as a professional moonshiner, a title which he was quite proud of. He loved to tell the stories over and over again. He could make the best sausage gravy and biscuits ever, and he loved to prepare and feed the family when the opportunity arose. He loved the old time way of farming, hog killing and raising cattle. He never lost his dream of having the strength to pursue those things again. Jim retired from Fieldale Farms and was formerly employed by North Georgia Rendering. A member of Bethel Baptist Church, he was also preceded in death by his brothers, Hayne Lee Burt, Bobby Burt; sister, Lillie Bell Burt; and granddaughters, April Gwen Sims and Ashley Marie Burt.

Surviving are his children, Jo Ann and J. B. Sims, Summerdale, AL, Angela and George Close, Foley, AL, Robin Sikes, Foley, AL, Regina Gatlin, Foley, AL, Robert and Amy Burt, Elberta, AL, Steve Burt, Foley, AL, Chris and Ashley Gilreath, Gainesville; sisters, Floy Sheffield, Winder, Ruby Crane, Duluth; brother and sister in law, Mike and Ellen Burt, Dawsonville; 16 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren, and a number of nieces, nephews and a host of friends who loved him dearly.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday June 27, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Ruel Martin and Rev. J. B. Sims will officiate. Interment will follow in the Bethel Baptist Church Cemetery.

Freddia Panter, 74, of Dahlonega passed away Tuesday June 19, 2018 at her residence following a period of declining health.

Mrs. Panter was born July 10, 1943 in Lumpkin County to the late Fred and Faye Fitts. Freddia spent several years as a school teacher and was a founding member of Winds of Peace Fellowship Church. She was very devoted to her family, especially her grandchildren, great grandchildren, and her church.

Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Rev. Tommy Panter, Dahlonega; children, Tammra and Michael Lawson, Dahlonega, Ty and Shelly Panter, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Misty and Tim Anglin, Traci and Seth Brooks, Brittney and Josh Nowak, Kellie and Walker Kastner, Hanna Panter, Sean Lawson, Cayden Panter; eight great grandchildren; sisters and brothers in law, Frances and Doug Grizzle, Dahlonega, Janice and James Green, Douglasville, Cheryl and Jimmy Berry, Dahlonega; brother and sister in law, Fred, Jr. and Lisa Fitts, Dahlonega; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Sunday June 24, 2018 at 6 p.m. at Winds of Peace Fellowship. Rev. James Green, Rev. Bo Robinson, and Rev. James Lemley will officiate. Interment will follow on Monday in Peaceful Valley Cemetery.

Summer Faith Anderson, 13, of Dawsonville passed away Wednesday May 16, 2018.

Born August 25, 2004, she was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. Summer was a 7th grade student at Dawson County Middle School where she participated in chorus.

Surviving are her parents, Lonnie and April Anderson, Dawsonville; brother, Zach Anderson, Dawsonville; grandmother, Lula Nix, Dawsonville; grandfather, Larry Dollar, Dawsonville; great grandmother, Willene Beck, Cleveland; and a number of other relatives.

Funeral services will be held Wednesday May 23, 2018 at 2 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Tony Holtzclaw will officiate. Interment will follow in the Harmony Baptist Church Cemetery.

Thomas “Tommy” Holmes Powell, 53, of Dahlonega, passed away Thursday April 26, 2018 at Chestatee Regional Hospital.

Tommy was born September 18, 1964 in Mobile, Alabama to the late Howard and Peggy Powell. A member of The Lighthouse for Jesus Church in Sugarhill, he loved to participate in music and loved the water. Although he had nonverbal autism, he would never meet a stranger and loved to flirt with the ladies. Tommy loved to eat and his favorite meal was Ms. Vickie’s chicken and dumplings.

Surviving are his brother, Lee Powell and his fiancé, Karen McClure, Conyers; sister, Patty Treadwell, Conyers; having been his caregivers for the past 10 years, becoming known as his second parents, Grady and Vickie Teems, Dahlonega; and many other friends and relatives.

Funeral services will be held Thursday May 3, 2018 at 11 o’clock at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Keith Blackwell will officiate. Interment will follow in Sawnee View Gardens.

Mary Elizabeth “Liz” Martin, 76, of Douglasville passed away Sunday April 15, 2018.
Born October 17, 1941 in Dawson County to the late Frank and Mary Bruce, she had lived in Douglas County since 1971. A homemaker at her death, she was formerly employed at Fulton Supply Company. Liz enjoyed gardening, bird watching and was an extremely devoted “Nana” to her grandchildren and great grandchildren. She was also preceded in death by her sisters, Maggie Thomas, Sarah Dobbs; and brothers, Hugh Bruce, Mark Bruce and Charles Cicero Bruce.

Surviving are her husband of 35 years, Rodger Martin, Douglasville; sons and daughter in law, John Everett Goins, III, Hiram, Jeffrey Eric and Deborah Goins, Winston, GA; step daughter and son in law, Holli and Tracey Phillips, St. Augustine, FL; grandchildren, Krysta Fry, Amylia Goins, Brooke Goins, Dalton Phillips, Avery Phillips; great grandchildren, Trenton and Sophia; sister, Lavada Parker, Apopka, FL; brothers, Frank Lewis Bruce, Decatur, Roy Bruce, Douglasville; her beloved poodle, Lily; and a number of other relatives.

Sylvia “Annette” Manning, 71, of Dawsonville passed away Tuesday March 27, 2018 following an extended illness.

Mrs. Manning was born May 20, 1946 in Griffin, Georgia and had been a resident of Dawsonville for over 25 years. She retired from Bellsouth Telecommunications on December 18, 1994 after 30 years of loyal service. Annette will be remembered for her complete dedication to her husband, children, grandchildren, family and many friends. Mrs. Manning was a member of Trinity Baptist Church and was preceded in death by her parents, Doyle and Mary “Mimi” Vaughan and son, Jeffrey Scott Manning.
Surviving are her husband of 54 years, Frank Manning of Dawsonville; daughter and son in law, Jennifer and Jon Spangler of Braselton; daughter in law, Debbie Manning of Worton, MD; grandchildren, Keith French, Ryan Manning, Jack Manning, Kristin French and Jensen Brock, Katie French, Skylar Spangler; sisters and brothers in law, Victoria and Steve Brumbelow of Dawsonville, Susan and Joe Chadwick of Snellville; other relatives.

Mr. Pierce “Sonny” McGee, age 80, passed away on Monday, March 26, 2018. He was born on July 7, 1937 in Atlanta, Georgia, to Pierce E. McGee, Sr. and Mary Louise McGee.

Mr. McGee graduated from Roosevelt High School in Atlanta, Georgia in 1956, and was a proud Veteran of the United States Navy. He graduated from Northeast Georgia Police Academy in 1991. Mr. McGee retired as a Sergeant from the Dawson County, Georgia Sheriff’s Department in 2003. He loved spending time with his family, baseball, and traveling with his beloved wife in their “McMotorhome”.

Mr. McGee will be joining his mother and father, Mary Louise and Pierce E. McGee Sr., respectively, and his sisters, Joyce Vining and MaryAnn Lindsey.

Mr. McGee is survived by his loving wife of sixty years, Jeannine S. McGee, their four children, Rhonda Weghorn, Tony McGee, Bonnie Lumpkin, and Nikki Kundrat. He is also survived by eight grandchildren, six great grandchildren, and numerous nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life Service will be held at 2:00 PM, Saturday, April 21, 2018 at Bearden Funeral Home Chapel. Rev. Mike Owens will officiate. Interment will follow in Dawsonville Memorial Gardens with military honors.

Mark Richard Yaegle, 62, of Dahlonega passed away Thursday March 8, 2018 at his residence.
Born October 23, 1955 in Warren, Pennsylvania to the late Richard and Margaret Yaegle, he lived several years in Lumpkin County. Mark worked most of his life in the printing industry. A talented guitarist, he played in bands in his younger years after which he devoted his talent to Praise and Worship. He enjoyed fishing, golf, walking on the square in Dahlonega, and spending time with his grandchildren. A member of Christ Fellowship, Mark was very active in Tres Diaz and Vida Nueva.
Surviving are his wife of 41 years, Patricia Yaegle, Dahlonega; children, Matthew Mark Yaegle, Canton, Janet Yaegle, Canton, Elizabeth and John Wentworth, Dahlonega; grandchildren, Ivy Elizabeth Yaegle, MaKenna Caroline Gravley; sister, Mary Yaegle, Ohio; brothers, Scott Yaegle, Atlanta, and Steven Yaegle, Idaho.

Born February 20, 1959, Bryan was a lifelong resident of Dawson County. He worked as a truck driver for most of his life, driving for multiple companies and most recently for Koch Foods. A loving father and grandfather, he enjoyed spending time outdoors. He was a member of Dawsonville Church of God of Prophecy.
