PRESS RELEASE – On December 20, 2021, the Dawson County Board of Education took the next step in its search for the district’s next superintendent. The board has been working on this selection since Dr. Damon Gibbs announced his retirement earlier this year. The finalist chosen by the BOE for Superintendent of Schools in Dawson County is Mrs. Nicole LeCave. School Board Chairperson, Elaine Wilson, said, “I am confident that with our selection of Mrs. LeCave, we have identified the right person to lead our school district.”
Mrs. LeCave has been employed by the Dawson County Board of Education for twenty-three years; fourteen of those twenty-three years have been in a leadership role. At both the building and system levels, she has led teams of teachers, administrators, and support staff in high levels of academic success and has led key initiatives that have contributed to the school system’s growth. During her tenure, Dawson County Schools have been in the top 10% on the College and Career Performance index; district elementary and middle schools’ performance has remained in the top in our region which consists of 14 North Georgia counties; elementary schools have been aligned; standards-based grading has been initiated; grades six-twelve have been realigned ; graduation credits earned by eighth grade students and dual enrollment programs have substantially increased; data-driven professional learning, common assesments, and formative assessment tools have been created. There are more accomplishments that could be listed, but the list is long. All have brought success to Dawson County Schools.
Mrs. LeCave is currently serving as Deputy Superintendent and work closely with Dr. Gibbs on all areas of the school system including facilities, finance, transportation, maintenance, personnel, nutrition, etc. She understands the school system’s goals and will ensure continuity and a smooth transition for our staff and students. Challenges and opportunities brought about by increased growth will demand that Dawson County Schools have a leader who can maintain the core values of the district but also embrace the growth in new and innovative ways to benefit our students. In her bio, Mrs. LeCave stated two principles upon which she has built her career: serving others and adding value. The Board of education unanimously agrees that the next Superintendent of schools in Dawson County will be Nicole LeCave.
In compliance with Georgia law, the board must wait a minimum of 14 days between announcing a finalist for the postion of superintendent and making the appointment official. The Board is expected to vote to appoint the school district ‘s next leader on Tuesday, January 4, 2022, at its regularly scheduled work session.
