Firefighter charged with driving under the influence

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. – A veteran Dawson County firefighter has been placed on administrative leave following his arrest on a DUI charge on February 1.

Lt. Mike Baumgartner, 31, was arrested at 4:45 p.m., following a single-vehicle crash at 6175 Hwy. 9, just south of the Forsyth County line. He was not on duty at the time.

Dawson County EMA Director and Fire Chief Danny Thompson said Baumgartner “has been placed on unpaid administrative leave pending the outcome of an internal investigation and a criminal trial.”
