City Council to consider Solar Resiliency Program Matching Grant

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – City Council members will consider applying for the Solar Resiliency Program Grant to fund installation of a solar panels at City Hall and possibly the wastewater treatment plant when they meet Monday (March 1).
The grant, offered by the Georgia Environmental Finance Authority is an 85/15 matching grant that could provide up to $200,000 to the City for installation of the system which is estimated to cost of the system is $300,000.
In a letter to Kelly Cutts, Program Manager of Solar Resiliency Program, Mayor Mike Eason said “This grant will go a long way in incentivizing the installation of the solar PV and backup batteries at City Hall and/or the water and sewer treatment plant. This will aid the City from power outages. It will also reduce the financial burden for our citizens while increasing service for growth.”
Council will hold two public hearings: One on a zoning request by Saara Mariah Quresh seeking to rezone 1.71 acres on Perimeter Road from Restricted Single-Family Residential to Highway Business on Tract B of TMP 092B 006 004 in order to expand her existing business that consists of outdoor storage and mini-storage units. The Planning Commission recommended denial of the rezoning.
The second public hearing will be on a request by Qureshi for variances on the property, including a reduction of the side setback from 40’ feet to 20’ feet, a buffer reduction from 30’ feet to 10’ feet on the adjoining tract and waiver of a 6-inch fire line connection fee of $60,000.
