DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – The Dawsonville City Council approved a pair of ordinance amendments during a 30-minute meeting Monday. The first will allow gravel roads to be adopted into the city’s road maintenance program under special circumstances. The second provides penalties for violations of the city’s water and sewer ordinance.

Council also unanimously approved a Farmer’s Market Pavilion rental fee schedule and a 2020 lease for the Dawsonville Moonshine Distillery during the combined work session and regular meeting. The fee for rental of the pavilion is $225 with tables and chairs and $150 without plus a $100 refundable deposit.

A request by Cross Bridge Community Church Pastor Timothy Bennett to forgive a portion of the church’s $589.54 water/sewer bill for the month of December was tabled. The bill was much higher than the church’s average monthly bill and Bennett said it was caused by a leaky toilet.

Council unanimously approved a request by Amanda Cagle, community development manager for the American Cancer Society, to hold the 23rd annual Relay for Life event at the Farmer’s Market on April 17 from 3:30 pm. until 11 p.m

Cagle also asked council to approve the closure of Allen Street during the event, a variance to the sound ordinance which prohibits the use of loudspeakers and sound amplifiers between the hours of 10 p.m. and 7 a.m. and waiver of the rental fee for pavilion. The road closure was approved. Based on the rental fee council adopted earlier in the meeting, council could not approve a waiver, but did allow a 20 percent discount.

Kare for Kids Executive Director Tiffany Buchan’s request for Kare for Kids to hold its annual Easter Egg Hunt at Main Street Park on April 11 was approved unanimously.

Council also approved the appointment of Dwight Gilleland and Marsha Martel to the Dawsonville Development Authority through 2024.
