DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – For those unable to make the ribbon cutting ceremony at the Dawson County College and Career Academy that begins at 5 p.m. Tuesday (Sept. 10), Career Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) Director Amy Smith will present an update during the Board of Education meeting starting at 6 p.m.
The new two-story facility located at the corner of Hwy. 53 and Perimeter Road hosts programs for the high school’s Career, Technical and Agricultural Education (CTAE) students and some of the classrooms are set aside for dual enrollment opportunities.
The building will also accommodate a full size industrial kitchen, multipurpose meeting room, a health sciences lab with a built-in patient room and hospital beds, and a video broadcasting studio. There will also be labs for construction and engineering programs, early childhood education, business and marketing as well as outdoor work areas.
Dr. Janice Darnell, executive director of Instructional Support and Student Services, will update the Board on the district’s Social Emotional Learning initiatives.
Chief Financial Officer Jamie Ulrich will ask the Board to approve the financial and eSPLOST reports. The eSPLOST collections were way ahead of projections for the month of August. 8 For the month of August. The Board projected collections of $636,694 but actual collections totaled $810,680. Year to date, the Board has collected $28,641,488 against a projection of $25,263,356.
The Board will consider adoption of each school’s procedures that specify how the state-adopted assessments will be used in making decisions concerning promotion, placement or retention of students in grades 1-8.
Other items to be voted on Tuesday, include the list of 12 out-of-state trips for students and per diem for Board members.
