DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — On August 24, 2019, Dawson County E911 received reports of a possible house fire at 2:17 p.m., located at 55 Day Rd. in Dawsonville. At 2:19 p.m., Dawson County Fire units were dispatched and the first engine company arrived at 2:23 p.m. and found flames through the roof and heavy smoke showing from a two-story single-family dwelling. Crews mounted an aggressive interior attack to bring the fire under control.

At the time of this fire, Dawson County was experiencing a strong line of thunderstorms, producing a significant amount of cloud to ground lighting. We had several calls working in this same area, attributed to lighting strikes. The cause of this fire appears to be from a lightning strike as well.

The occupants of the residence were not at home when the started but did have several canines in the residence. Crews were able to locate three canines; one was deceased at the scene but Fire personnel assisted the family in transporting two of the canines to the emergency animal hospital in Gainesville. Latest update is the two “puppies” are still receiving treatment.

Dawson County responded with three engine companies, two med units, water tender and several Chief Officer. We received mutual aid from Hall County Truck 16 and Battalion Chief. There were no firefighter or civilian injures at this incident.
