City approves LED lighting for Main Street Park

The Dawsonville City Council approved an expenditure of $119.275 for lighting at Main Street Park during Monday’s meeting. Georgia Power will provide 16-foot high LED lights and funding will be from city’s General Fund.

Council unanimously approved road closures for the Moonshine Festival that will be held Oct. 25-27. State roads to be closed include Hwy. 53 east at Jack Heard and Hwy. 9 north at the middle school from 3pm Friday Oct. 25- 8 p.m. Sunday.

City roads that will close from 3p.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Sunday include Academy, Ted Chester, Gober Sosebee, Bernard Long and Bill Elliott. City streets that will close from 7 a.m. Friday until 8 p.m. Sunday include Allen Street from Hwy. 53 to the library and Memory Lane from Jack Heard to Main Street.

Council unanimously approved an alcohol license for I Love N.Y. Pizza.

City Manager Bob Bolz received approval to authorize change orders should they be necessary up to the limit of his signing authority, $25,000 before bringing it to Council.

Council also approved appointments to the History Museum Board to include Gordon Pirkle, David Sosebeee, Trampas Hansard, Linda Dinsmore, Faye Abercrombie, Cindy Elliott and Scott Adams.

The council also held a number of first readings, to include:

An update of all city ordinances;

A business license for short-term rentals;

A small wireless facilities ordinance;

An amendment to the general penalty for ordinance violations;

Amendment to the fee schedule for ordinance violations.

Second reading will be held during the next council meeting on Aug. 19

Council honored Jacob Barr by naming him Employee of the Month. Planning and Zoning Director Robbie Irvin received the city’s Service Award.
