UPDATE: Dawsonville man charged in wreck that injured five people

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – A Dawsonville man faces several charges, including DUI, serious injury by vehicle and reckless driving following the Jan. 31 single-vehicle accident that injured five people on Hwy. 136 in Dawson County.

SFC Curtis Bradshaw of Georgia State Patrol Post 37 in Cumming reports that Michael Don Land was the driver of a Buick LaCrosse that was traveling west on SR 136 when it veered off the road to the left.  The LaCrosse traveled down a steep embankment and struck some small trees at the bottom of the embankment before coming to rest on the south shoulder of the roadway. 

The driver and an adult passenger, 30-year-old Crystal Gooch of Dawsonville, was taken to Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville for treatment of their injuries.  The driver suffered non-life threatening injuries.  Gooch suffered serious injuries and remains hospitalized.

There were three children, ages 4, 5, and 6, in the vehicle as well. They were taken to Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta for treatment. Two have been released. The 6-year-old remains in the hospital, but is reportedly improving.

Land faces one count of DUI (drugs), three counts of DUI (child endangerment), reckless driving, failure to maintain lane and child restraint violation.
