Winter Storm Warning in effect in Dawson, White and Lumpkin counties through Saturday morning

PEACHTREE CITY, Ga. – At 9:39 a.m., the National Weather Service issued the following Winter Storm Warning for Dawson, Lumpkin and White counties as well as Murray, Fannin, Gilmer, Union, Towns, Gordon, Pickens, Floyd, Bartow, Cherokee, Polk (Tennessee), Paulding, Cobb and Haralson as well as the cities of Cleveland and Dahlonega. The warning remains in effect until 7 a.m. Saturday.

Heavy snow is occurring in those locations and total accumulation of two to four inches can be expected in elevations above 2,500 ft.

Slick and dangerous road conditions are possible, especially on elevated bridges and overpasses. Road conditions are expected to deteriorate through the day and into the evening. Be prepared for significant reductions in visibility at times.

A Winter Storm Warning for snow means severe winter weather conditions are occurring. If you must travel, keep an extra flashlight, food and water in your vehicle in case of an emergency. The latest road conditions for the state you are calling from can be obtained by calling 511.

Schools in White and Lumpkin counties were closed Friday.
