News

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – Now that the days have grown longer and the weather warmer, Georgian’s have begun looking for their early-season vegetables, which is what brought such a huge opening-day crowd to the Amicalola Regional Farmers Market today.

More than 100 shoppers were on hand to visit the booths that of about 15 vendors. Clark McCallister of the UGA Extension Service was on hand and said he was pleasantly surprised by the big opening-day crowd. While it is still too early for a full selection of Georgia’s vegetables, there were some excellent greens, some onions a few tomatoes harvested by Dawson County farmers who were courageous enough to plant early and a great selection of crafts handmade by Dawson County residents.

The market, which is located in front of the Tractor Supply parking lot on Dawsonville Highway, will be open each Friday from 3:30 p.m. until 7 p.m. and each week more Dawson County-grown vegetables will become available.
