USFS Seeks Public Comments on Chattahoochee National Forest

GAINESVILLE, Ga. — The U.S. Forest Service is seeking input from the public as they begin to write landscape management policies for a 143,419-acre swath of the Chattahoochee National Forest in north Georgia.

Included in The Foothills Landscape project are sections of the Cohutta WMA in Fannin, Gilmer and Murray Counties, as well as Forest Services lands in Dawson, Habersham, Lumpkin, Rabun and White Counties.

According to their website the purpose of this project is to create, restore and maintain ecosystems that are more resilient to natural disturbances.

A series of five public “Community Conversations” has been scheduled, the first will be held in Dahlonega on October 13th at Lumpkin County Community Center, 365 Riley Road from 6- 9 PM.

The second meeting will be held at the Hall Community Center at 4175 Nopone Road in Gainesville: Saturday, October 15 from 9:30am-12:30pm.
