DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — 2016 is a year in which voters seem to favor candidates with no political experience. That may bode well for Tim Davis, a truck driver and lifelong resident of Dawson County, who is running for Dawson County Board of Commissioners in District 2.

Davis has been too busy working to put food on the table for his family to become too involved in politics, although he was elected supervisor of the soil and water conservation district for two terms in the late 1970s.

He owned his own trucking company for a while, but sold out when diesel prices skyrocketed and now drives for T. W. Phillips Grading and Hauling.

“I love Dawson County,” Davis said. “I’ve lived here all my life and I felt like I wanted to give something back to my community. I would like to make a difference.”

A graduate of Forsyth County High School where his mother, Ann Davis, was a teacher for many years, he also attended Gainesville Junior College.

Davis said he feels like the county is moving in the right direction, but feels county commissioners need to prepare for the population growth that is headed in its direction.

“I’d like to see most of that growth remains along the 400 corridor,” he said. “I’d also like to ensure our roads and bridges are well maintained, that our children receive a good education and our elderly are well cared for.”

Davis says being a non-politician could be a plus.

“I believe I can be an effective voice for the citizens. I’ve lived here all my life so I know the people and what they expect from a commissioner.”
