Despite the game being delayed due to some bad weather, Dawson County dominated West Hall from the opening kick.

The Tigers’ first drive was exactly how you want to start a game. They started at the 30, and drove the ball down the field on multiple first down runs and short passes. The drive ended with a 6 yard touchdown run by #21 Shawn Thomas to give Dawson a 7-0 lead less than 3 minutes into the game.

The Tigers’ defense really blew this game open. After forcing a quick 3 and out, they tackled the punter following a bad snap, setting their offense up with a first down from the Spartans’ 12 yard line.

Unfortunately, Dawson County couldn’t get in the same rhythm they had the first drive, as they had to settle for a short field goal that gave them a 10-0 lead with 6:40 left in the first.

Similar to the first drive, Dawson’s defense forced a quick 3 and out, and a bad punt gave the Tigers the ball at around midfield.

Dawson’s offense was able to get the ball moving again, and scored on a 26 yard touchdown run by #15 Isaiah Grindle to extend their lead to 17-0 with 3 minutes remaining in the quarter.

Having already hit a field goal and 2 extra points, #99 Caleb Bonesteel pinned West Hall at their own 4 yard line with an incredible kick off that bounced right in front of the goal line. The Spartans let it bounce, assuming it would go out of bounds or in the endzone. However, it spun back on the field, forcing them to grab it quickly and run. That gave enough time for multiple Tigers to get down the field and meet the returner shortly after he grabbed the ball.

West Hall would get some momentum going by driving the ball to midfield, but they eventually punted the ball away at the beginning of the second quarter.

Dawson wasted no time moving the ball, as the quarterback #10 Zacchaeus Holtzclaw ran for a quick first down and then hurled the ball 33 yards to #6 Jaden Gibson. After multiple first down runs, Thomas ran in another touchdown to make it a 24-0 game with 9:16 left in the first half.

The Spartans were able to move the ball into Tiger territory on the following drive, but #2 Maximos Moon got to the quarterback twice to knock West Hall out of field goal range.

Holtzclaw dominated the following drive. Following an offsides call that made it 3^rd and 5, Holtzclaw used the hard count to get the other 5 yards they needed for the first down. He then tossed a 22-yard pass to #1 Dakohta Sonnichsen followed by a 23-yard touchdown pass to #8 Hunter Barron to give them a 31-0 lead heading into halftime.

Dawson County didn’t miss a beat in the second half, as they recovered a West Hall fumble on their first possession of the half and turned it into a 22 yard field goal with 7:19 left in the third quarter.

Unfortunately, the game was cut short at this point due to weather related issues. This worked out fine for the Tigers, as they walked away with a 34-0 win, which is a testament to their hard work in practice. One of the statistical highlights for Dawson is that they fumbled zero snaps over the course of the game, which is significantly better than the multitude of bobbled snaps they’ve had every game this season.

The Tigers will look to remain undefeated next week as they host Denmark.
