Jaybo Shaw Gets First Win As Tigers Head Coach

Dawson County Breaks Through, Knocks Off Banks County 32–22

 

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — The Dawson County Tigers gave their home crowd plenty to cheer about Friday night, outlasting Banks County 32–22 in a back-and-forth contest that included big plays, weather delays, and the first victory of the season for head coach Jaybo Shaw.

 

Banks County opened the game with a bang, scoring on a long touchdown run less than two minutes into the first quarter. Dawson answered quickly, as Cody McBrayer powered across the goal line and added a two-point run to give the Tigers their first lead.

 

Lightning in the area halted play for more than an hour, but once the teams returned, Dawson carried the momentum. McBrayer struck again before halftime, putting the Tigers up 15–7 at the break.

 

Quarterback Gunnar Weaver extended the lead in the third quarter with a strike to Dylan Edwards, but Banks County refused to fold. The Leopards cut the deficit to one score twice in the second half, including a rushing touchdown early in the fourth quarter that made it 25–22.

 

The Tigers had the final answer, with Weaver keeping the ball on a short run to the end zone in the closing minutes to secure the win.

 

McBrayer led the way for Dawson County, piling up nearly 200 rushing yards with two scores, while Edwards was the top target in the passing game. The Tiger defense also came up with timely stops, including key plays on third down late in the game.

 

The victory not only snapped Dawson’s early-season skid but also marked Coach Shaw’s first win with the program.

 

Dawson County (1–2) will have a week off before opening region play against Pickens. Banks County (0–3) will return home next Friday to host Cherokee Bluff.
