When a local business owner reached out to inquire about a possible firearms training, Captain Goodie took the opportunity to educate the group on more than just guns. By combining several different classes, to include firearms training, self defense, situational awareness and others, a revised, three-part-series of tactics designed to focus on the individual as a form of target hardening, was born.
This small group met for their first of three sessions, and it became evident that we’re going to need to hold more of these classes. One of the biggest takeaways of the first class was how the attendees generally carry their weapons and whether or not that would prove useful in a use of force situation. They were brought to our simulator and were advised to carry their simulator weapon in the same fashion they would carry their concealed firearm, and the results were eye-opening.
DCSO is constantly looking for ways to connect and work with our community and we believe this training is going to be most beneficial.
“As we continue to seek ways to better serve our community, we remain fully committed to empowering our people. We are proud of our staff and for all they do to better prepare our community, to help keep themselves and their loved ones safe. Only by continuing to work together will we be successful in reducing crime and victimization in our county.” -Sheriff Johnson
