Dawson County Commissioners meet Thursday

DAWSON COUNTY, Ga. – The Dawson County Board of Commissioners will consider replacing Windstream as a cable TV provider when it meets in a work session at 4 p.m. Thursday (Sept. 3) in the Government Center Assembly Center, 25 Justice Way.

Windstream has discontinued that service which it used to provide to the county at no charge. Two companies have submitted bids to become the new vendor. Dish Network will install the service at a cost of $18,685 and a monthly service fee of $1,142.06. Direct TV bid an installation fee of $11,950 and monthly service fee of $1,802.87.

Staff recommends awarding the bid to Dish Network due to a considerable savings as a result of the reduced service fee.

Other items on the work session agenda include:

• Presentation of Resolution Approving the Issuance of Revenue Bonds by the Development Authority of Dawson County (DADC) for the Peaks of Dawsonville Development;
• Presentation of Request for Emergency Temporary Elections Employee and Additional 2020 Budget Funds;
• Presentation of Application for Parade and Assembly – Bootlegger Triathlon;
• Presentation of Edna Noblin Road Abandonment Request;
• Presentation of Dawson County Recycling Program Update;
• Presentation of 2020 Dawson County Surplus List.

During the voting session that will follow the work session immediately, commissioners will hold two public hearings. The first will be a 9-1-1 ordinance update. The second, an annual Capital Improvements Element Update.

Under New Business, commissioners will consider an application for Victims of Crime Act Grant for FY 2021 and a new annexation request.
