Tigers Shut Down Eagles Flight Plans

After a 16-2 win over the Mount Bethel Eagles on Monday, the Tigers traveled to Marietta looking to sweep the quick two-game series over the non-region opponent.

After the dominating performance from the Tigers on Monday, it would be hard pressed for a team to play better on Wednesday and yet that happened.  The expectations were not only met but exceeded as the Tigers came out in the top of the first and put up 7 runs to take the lead and never look back.  Stepping to the plate first as the visiting team, the wings of the Mount Bethel Eagles were clipped early and often as Dawson scored in what seemed at will.  Sapp started things off with a screaming double to right field and set the table for the guys behind him.  Allen was hit by a pitch to put runners on 1st and 2nd as Lewis took his place in the batter’s box.  The Tigers scored the first 2 of 7 on a Lewis single before anyone could blink.   Hits by Hernandez, Mullinax, Rucker and the second hit for Sapp in the inning plated 5 more and had the Tigers firmly in control heading into the bottom half of inning number one.  Taking a quick breather, Dawson went scoreless through inning 2 but picked right back up in the third to leave no doubts to their readiness to walk away with the victory.  On 5 walks, 1 HBP, 7 singles, 1 double and Sapp Grand Slam, the visiting Tigers ended any chance of the Eagles taking flight.  The 13 run third set the score at 20-0 and would be the final score in the mercy rule game.

Defensively both teams played errorless ball but the obvious difference was the pitching of the Dawson Tigers.  C. Moore and G. Gutierrez combined for the 1 hit shutout.  Moore started the game and went 2 innings on 17 pitches(15 were strikes) with no hits, no runs, and 2 strikeouts.  Gutierrez came in to close out the game and had 1 walk, 1 hit, and 1 strikeout in 1 inning of work for the Tigers.  These two Tiger hurlers could not be touched.

The Tigers will cleat up at North Hall on Monday the 4th with a start time of 5:55 PM.
