Army Rangers conduct annual water jump into Lake Lanier

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. – If there is ever a good day to jump out of a perfectly good aircraft, Wednesday was it.

U.S. Army Rangers with the 5^th Ranger Training Battalion conducted their annual water jump from War Hill Park into Lake Lanier under a beautiful clear, blue sky.

Starting at 9 a.m., soldiers parachuted from National Guard Helicopters in groups of six throughout the day. The purpose of the exercise was to build unit morale, enhance soldiers’ proficiency in airborne operations and strengthen relationships with local law enforcement and emergency services.

Command Sgt. Major Michael Hack, one of the first to parachute, said, “The weather was perfect. You couldn’t ask for anything better. All of our group hit their mark. I hope that continues the rest of the day.”

While the sergeant major was executing his jump, his wife Alicia and their 8-year-old son, Jacob, waited with 100 or more spectators on the shoreline.

Mrs. Hack admitted to being nervous. “I’ve seen him jump before, but this is the first time I’ve seen him execute a water jump,” she said. If Jacob was nervous, it didn’t show. He enjoyed wading in the lake while waiting for his dad.
