Maria Martins, 84, of Cumming passed away Thursday September 21, 2017 at her residence following a period of declining health.
Born January 18, 1933, Maria had been a resident of Cumming for the past five years coming from Brazil. For over thirty years she worked as a nurse, ten of which at Hospital Emilio Ribas where she treated children and adults with infectious disease and she also worked for the Health Department in Sao Paulo, Brazil. Maria attended Good Shepherd Catholic Church and enjoyed spending time at the YMCA in Cumming where she leaves behind many friends. She was preceded in death by her husband, Clovis H. Martins.
Surviving are her daughter and son in law, Dr. Katia M. Adams and Mauro Pires, Cumming, GA; a number of sisters, brothers and other relatives in Brazil.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Saturday September 23, 2017 from 4 p.m. until 6 p.m.
A memorial Mass will be held on Thursday September 28, 2017 at 5 p.m. at Good Shepherd Catholic Church in Cumming.
