Snowfall reaches 2 to 5 Inches in Dawson County

DAWSONVILLE, Ga. — Dawson County Emergency Services Director Lanier Swafford said last night’s snowfall is about what was expected, 2.5 inches in town and 4.5 inches reported on Burnt Mountain.

The road conditions improved during the day, but are still considered hazardous. Any unnecessary travel is discouraged. Dawson County parks and the transfer station are closed.

According to the National Weather Service in Atlanta, the precipitation has all but ended. Temperatures are not expected to get above 32 today so we may have some travel issues, especially on secondary roads.

Now, it gets very cold. We were at 29 degrees at 3 a.m., which is the high for today. We drop to 12 tonight with a wind chill of -2. Sunday night, the temperature will be 16 and up to 36 on Monday.

Any snow or melting snow will certainly refreeze and could cause black ice.
