Red Flag Warning in effect in north and central Georgia

ATLANTA — The Red Flag Warning issued by the National Weather Service today (Apr. 10) as a result of low relative humidity and high winds will remain in effect through 8 p.m. for most of north and central Georgia.

A Red Flag Warning means that critical fire weather conditions are either occurring, or will occur within 24 hours.

The counties affected include Dawson, Lumpkin, White, Dade-Walker-Catoosa-Whitfield urray-Fannin-Gilmer-Union-Towns- Chattooga-Gordon-Pickens-Floyd-Bartow-Cherokee-Forsyth-Hall-Banks-Jackson-Madison-Polk-Paulding-Cobb, North Fulton-Gwinnett-Barrow-Clarke-Oconee-Oglethorpe-Wilkes-Haralson-Carroll-Douglas-South Fulton-DeKalb-Rockdale-Walton-Newton-Morgan-Greene-Taliaferro-Heard-Coweta-Fayette-Clayton-Spalding-Henry-Butts-Jasper-Putnam-Hancock-Warren-Troup-Meriwether-Pike-Upson-Lamar-Monroe-Jones-Baldwin-Washington-Glascock-Jefferson-Harris-Talbot-Taylor-Crawford-Bibb-Twiggs-Wilkinson-Johnson-Emanuel-Muscogee-Chattahoochee-Marion-Schley-Macon-Peach-Houston-Bleckley-Laurens-Treutlen-Stewart-Webster- and Sumter.

• Winds…Northwest 15 to 20 mph with gusts 25 to 30 mph.
• Relative Humidity…18 to 25 percent.
• Temperatures…Lower 60s to lower 70s for most areas. 50s for the higher elevations in the far north.
• Impacts…Very low relative humidity and strong winds will allow fire to spread rapidly.
